Actually, I think what’s going on is that some of the paid Cruz trolls who had hijacked dormant accounts are simply bowing out now that they’ve finally been check-mated.

Catnipman, I think you have nailed it. StephenJohnBanker, PA Engineer and others have theorized about this and have caught a few sleeper trolls that suddenly reared up out of nowhere, and when called out, vociferously protested in outrage, and then mysteriously slinked off and assumed a lower profile.

The GOPe (and other partisan political entities) understands that Free Republic IS a major hub of conservative thought, and while they may not mention JimRob very often, they know that he's like those old E.F. Hutton commercials, "When JimRob talks, FReepers listen".

It's for that reason that I believe (as do some others) that if it is possible for them to either register new accounts and keep them marginally active or to perhaps as you said CN-Man, take over dormant accounts either through hacking the password or with the collaboration of whoever had access to the account, they can attempt to disrupt or sway discussions in their own personal political interest while appearing to be individual posters without an agenda.

Yep. There is no other plausible explanation for it. We were catching 2 or 3 per day a few weeks ago. They usually had no writing on their home page, and no state mentioned.
