Throw in the towel is like quitting a move or two before the other guy INEVITABLY wins in chess. It isn’t really quitting, it is recognizing reality.
Cruz cannot win on the first ballot - reality. He, himself, advised Kasich to leave the race for that very reason.
Cruz can, therefore, ONLY win on a 2nd, 3rd, whatever ballot - and that pretty much guarantees that millions of people that would otherwise vote against Hillary will, instead, stay home. That’s what civil wars do, and the longer they drag on, the more brutal they become, and the longer the healing process takes.
All that I am asking Cruz to do is to face reality and deal with IT, not with some hypothetical future that has little chance of becoming reality. He’s young, he’ll have other chances...if he doesn’t completely blow up the Party by continuing an unwinnable campaign.
It isn’t quitting, its taking one for the team. Note that there is no “I” in “team” - and, YES, I got that from someone else...is it any less valid because of that?
There will be no healing - either the Trump supporters stay home in November, or the approximately 40% of the GOP that will not vote for Trump in the general will stay home in November. Either way, Hillary wins.
Taking one for the team? For the guy and side that has done nothing but attack the team.
A team he cant make a deal with?
