“they have a lot less control at the state level than you think.”
Of course they have little control of the process of the states and that is how it should be.
Along with many other principles trumpers have had to abandon to support The Donald, they now seem to be willing to throw away one of the greatest things in the country, the fact that states have rights and are not under total control of the feds.
I know that Donald Trump should by rights be able to tell all the states how to conduct their primaries or caucuses ... that is only right and fair, but right now, he can’t.
I'd expect to be laughing at Ted Cruz supporters melt down as they lose 42 states in the fall. They're going to be shocked when they discover that winning with the voters is required to win a general election.
>Dont blame Ted Cruz. He actually knew how to run for president.
Running for present requires winning with the voters... something that Ted continues to fail with.
Well I am from Colorado and in fact, in 2012 was a precinct captain. So let me share some facts with you regarding the delegate selection process.
- ANY REGISTERED REPUBLICAN can go to their precinct during the caucus to vote. There have not been any reports of registered voters being turned away.
- ANY REGISTERED REPUBLICAN can run for and be elected to the position of precinct captain. Each precinct elects it’s own captain from those who attend the caucus. Only locals within the precinct are allowed to vote for their captain.
- ANY REGISTERED REPUBLICAN can run for and be elected to the position of delegate (or alternate) to represent the precinct in the state convention. Each precinct elects is own representative (delegate) from those who have put in to be a delegate. Only locals within the precinct are allowed to vote for their delegate.
- None of the delegates are bound and have not been since 2004
- 3,953 delegates went to the state convention to select the 37 delegates that represent the State of Colorado at the national convention.
- these rules have been in place since 2004 when the grass roots mom and pop republicans took control of the party back from the national bosses in 2012 and restored the caucus system that had been in place from 1912 till 1988.
Trying to create a situation based on lies and dis-information is what the main stream media has done and that is the VERY definition of propaganda.
If you educate yourself with the facts you will find that the MSM is lying to you.
My position is the whole nominating process is corrupt. We haven’t see it before because the corrupt GOPe usually gets their candidate.
Since the GOPe hasn’t gotten their candidate, the whole corrupt process is being exposed by Trump. The Dem side is being exposed as well.
Anything done to try to normalize the process is just mere propaganda.

“Even if they come in a distant third, a top campaign aide tells me, they will still, they believe, pick up more than half the delegates there.”
The will of the voter cropped on again.
Excuse my language.
But this is SO wrong, I don’t care which candidate you’re for. That the country isn’t in an uproar makes me sure we are done as a country our founding fathers sacrificed for.
Not me, there are millions like me that will never vote for Donnie the Scumbag (since donnie calls everybody names i thought i would add my own). Just get ready for Queenie Hillary because she will use his Hollywood hair to mop the floor.
The fact that it emanated from NBC tells you that.
Cruz is losing his base, Cruz is forgetting the major portion of his base are Trump supporters, which will NEVER vote for him!!!! I EVEN voted Romney I WILL NOT VOTE Cruz!!! Cruz WILL lose worse than Romney!!!!
“See ya at the bill signing”
or
“Meet my brother Jeb. He’d make an excellent President.”
Excuse me but we are in 2016 and the caucuses were cancelled in August of 2015 no one in 2016 VOTED on anything!!!! Period END of conversation!!!!
Your post is absolutely correct.
As much as many on here like to tilt at windmills about the “rules” or the “playing field”, those rules and playfield have been out there for sometime now.
The Trump campaign didn’t take the time to learn those rules or where and when to fight for delegates.
Trump should know this. His campaign staff should know this. If he loses the nomination, he’ll have no one to blame but himself and his staff.
Of course, Trump, his staff and his supporters will blame his loss on the evil GOP establishment. It’s easier to do this than to admit you got out-gamed and out-worked.
We feel the same way about LYIN TEDDY BEAR!!!!! Your guy has NO crossover appeal, your guy will lose WORSE than Romney!!! Cruz couldn’t even get 50% of his home state!!! Your guy jumped right into bed with the GOPe first chance he got for money and backing he IS a true establishment POL!!!!! Sad thing IS establishment can’t STAND HIM!!! It’s all about STOPPING Trump!!!! Teddy Bear WILL get his due karma !!!!!
When are some of you going to figure out that "conservative" can just be a label. It doesn't mean it is true or not.
From both candidates being vetted on FR daily, it's showing that Trump has far more conservative principles than Cruz. Conservative is just a label.
Feel free to read this when you have some time: A FReeper discussion on the history of Trump's conservative pro-America positions

Giving up on NY to go to PA to try and steal some more delegates. Cruz gets most of his delegates where people don’t actually vote or their votes don’t count.
How does he think this strategy would work in the general election?
It wouldn’t, but it doesn’t matter because Ted will not be the nominee.
If delegates were apportioned the way trump wants votes by people
Trump would have a much smaller lead than he does now
The system is rigged
For trump
Second, winner-take-most states (like NY, tonight) are also very straightforward. You win the statewide vote, you get X delegates; you win >50% of the statewide vote, you get Y delegates; you do the same in each Congressional district, you get X or Y votes. No gaming the system with them, you win a certain number of delegates, depending strictly on the popular vote.
Third, Trump has MANY more votes than Cruz. He’d still have a lead - and a substantial one, at that - over Cruz if you compare strictly the popular vote.
So we should have OPEN primaries where non-Republicans can come in and decide who the RNC nominee is?
That is obviously wrong and is a civil rights violation.
Republicans should be able to have procedures for selecting THEIR nominee for a GENERAL election later.
Democrats and independents should not be able to choose two democrats to run for the general election in November.
With all due respect that is exactly what is happening and is exactly what many Trump supporters are calling for.
It is event said that this makes Trump more competitive in the general because he has more democrats behind him.
That is frankly ridiculous. Why shouldn’t minority viewpoints like the conservatives be able to have caucus process for influencing the broader election and possibly selecting a nominee who will then be tested in a popular election ?
If Bernie ran for the RNC nominee and somehow won popular votes would you really say that is fair?
So will all the trumpanzees.
I didn’t address open primaries at all - just the straightforwardness of winner-take-all and winner-take-most primaries.
I also mentioned that Trump has received far more votes than Cruz.
You chose not to answer those points, but I shall answer yours:
For the record, I am AGAINST open primaries. I absolutely agree with you that only Republicans should choose the Republican nominee. I think that you should have to be a registered Republican (or Dem, for their primaries) for at least 6 months before the primary in order to vote in it.
My ideal primary system is ALL primaries, ALL either winner-take-all or winner take most, and ALL closed. I don’t think that I’ll live long enough to see the GOPe allow such a thing to happen, though (I’d have to be at least several hundred years old to see such an event, assuming that there’s even a Republican Party at that point).
I am advocating that Trump get the Libertarian nomination and the Republican nomination ( Quite proper) . If the GOPe steals it then we crush them!!
