Every President for the past several decades has been the veto vote for the appointment of the party chairman.

Party chairmen are not appointed. They are elected by the rest of the national committee. Once elected they cannot be fired on a whim of the president's.

Well enough, “appointment” was not the correct word. But if it makes you happy to think a sitting President cannot see to it that someone is removed from the position, you go on ahead and believe that.
