Hugh Hewitt had an afternoon show on Salem Media’s flagship Los Angeles station for years. Now he does mornings in DC.
Last summer he was dumping manure on Trump on a daily basis just like his Salem Radio pal Michael Medved.
This stopped all of a sudden when he started getting regular interviews from The Donald. If you were a longtime Hewitt listener you could tell that he ceased his Trump bashing simply so that he wouldn’t ruin a good thing- the Trump interviews sometimes made news.
I didn’t hear the show that you did, but Hewitt isn’t pro-Ted either. Hewitt is as pure a GOPe establishment insider as you will find. He was at that private Sea Island meeting for all three days.
If he sounds like he is backing Ted right now it is because that fits the GOPe plan for keeping Trump from 1237 and insuring an open convention. Hewitt was among the first to push for an open convention back in January when it became obvious that Jeb and the rest of the GOPe choices were getting crushed.
Hewitt will be backing the ‘New Face’ GOPe candidate at the convention, whether that new face is Ryan or Walker or Jeb or Kasich. He always tips his hand on his radio show but since it’s on at 3am here in SoCal I no longer hear it.
