There was much speculation because Carson said he was not going to New Hampshire and he was going home to Florida.
That speculation made sense and I have no doubt that if Trump repeated it— which he probably did— trump supporters were fine with that.
Cruz kept repeating the lie even after CNN ran a retraction AND after Mrs. Carson herself corrected them at a caucus.
