I’m not a Kasich fan but I don’t see where he was wrong on anything here.
The way I see it, Kasich thinks he knows more about Judaism than scholars of Judaism do.
He can believe what he likes, imo it’s inappropriate for a politician attempting to win votes to “correct” others faith, or evangelize. It’s not clear what he’s doing here. He can believe as he wishes, seemed to me his hosts took it in stride, but not a winning political strategy.
