The Beatles’ music arrived at virtually the same time that President Kennedy was shot. That early music was upbeat and hopeful and probably helped us to shake off what was going on in the outside world. Dunno how old you are but maybe you had to be there to appreciate their impact. I liked their music up through Rubber Soul and Revolver, but after that I found a lot of it to be unlistenable.

I was there. But "I Wanna Hold Yer Haaaaaaaand" was a BIG step down from the 1950s and from the early Beach Boys as well.

Remember the scene at the Toga Party in Animal House when a toga clad John Belushi is going up the stairs past an ohhhhh so sensitive lad strumming a guitar and singing "I gave my love a chicken that had no bone?" Remember Belushi stooping on a dime, turning with a look of disgust and contempt on his face and smashing the guitar to smithereens? Those were the good old days!

Culture quiz:

Shelby Cobra or Volkswagen bus?

Jack Daniels or Turkish Red?

Marlboros or Vegetarianism?

Showers or soaplessness?

Natalie Wood or Natalie Maines?

Believe me, I saw them coming off of that plane.
