I was at the Colo State Convention, lodi90. Were you?

OBVIOUSLY NOT!

First of all, it was 15 sec, not 10 sec per candidate running for the delegate slots.

And secondly, we had ***619*** FREAKING CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR ONLY 13 DELEGATE + 13 ALTERNATE SLOTS, FER CRYIN OUT LOUD!!!

So tell me, what do *YOU* consider as "fair"?

5 minutes per candidate, perhaps?

Do you have a calculator handy?

Never mind, I'll do it for you.

If all 619 candidates had 5 minutes to speak, it would only have required us sitting in that cramped arena seating, accessible only by the steepest steps, to remain a mere 51 hours and 35 minutes longer!!

Or could we cut it from 5 to *1* minute each, and still managed to pass your smell test for "Fair"? Calculator time again ..... That would have kept us there for just another *5* hours. Sound reasonable to you? Do you know anything about Colorado? As it is, most of us (the ones who didn't drive in Fri night) had to drive hours from various points in Colorado to get there for a 7am checkin that was jammed and still going on at 9:30am, and the earliest anyone got out was around 4:30pm.

But those of us who loyally responded to the pleas to stay put so as to be around for a possible 2nd ballot on the Senate nominee (which didn't happen PTL!) didn't get out until 6:30pm. Add 5 hours to that, on your calculator, please. Do you know how long it takes the West Slope delegates to drive home from the Front Range?

So *no* - I am not going to apologize on behalf of my fellow Colorado Republicans for limiting the candidates to 15 seconds each. Even with that limit, the final candidate finished their 15 seconds with less than 5 minutes to go before the original deadline for turning ballots in expired.

And as I mentioned in this post, this phase of the State Convention was just one more example of how the Cruz campaign was highly organized on the day of the convention and the Trump campaign under their newbie Colorado Coordinator (appointed just 72 hours earlier, I hear), seemed to be without a clue, and in this case unable to do simple math. Because when you have 188 Cruz-pledged and 48 Trump-pledged candidates running for 13 Delegate slots, each campaign has to take measures to ensure their supporters don't dilute their votes. And Team Trump didn't take those measures during the candidate's 15-sec speeches, but Team Cruz did it. Because time and again when the Cruz-pledged candidates got up there, they used their 15 sec to say "Don't vote for me! Vote for the Cruz slate". I never heard a single Trump-pledged candidate say the same.

BTW, in addition to the reasons I detailed in the above link, I've now read of yet more reasons why Trump's people failed to get at least 1 or 2 Colorado Delegates - which they should have been able to do with any reasonable level of organization:

Trump himself obviously realized his Colorado Coordinator was incompetent, as he fired him last Tuesday, which was three days after 6 delegates were picked, two days before another 3 were chosen, three days before another 12 were chosen, and four days before the remaining 13 were.
Did you know that Ted Cruz showed up to address the Colorado State Convention and that Trump was scheduled to address us as well, but pulled out at the last minute on Thu night? Did this have connection to his firing of his man in Colorado? Nobody knows.
Did you know that Colorado Team Trump passed out slates/lists containing the list of Trump candidates they wanted you to vote for, with the wrong ballot #s for *7* of them? How do you manage to get 7 out of 13 wrong? Well, at least that clears up one mystery: I'd wondered why I saw Cruz slates everywhere but no Trump slates when I arrived around 8:30. Apparently they had discovered the error earlier and my best guess is their woefully tiny staff (compared to Cruz) was off somewhere furiously hand-writing the correct #s on the erroneous fliers with the slate lists. FYI, some of those wrong numbers written on the original slates they passed out pointed to Cruz-pledged candidates! Can you spell F-I-A-S-C-O? I'm wondering how many fliers they passed out before discovering the error?
Did you know that in the week prior, Colorado Team Trump also messed up in sundry & various ways on the slates they handed out at the 7 Congressional District meetings, (each of which choose 3 Delegates), including the first two CD meetings 7 days before the State Convention? I'm guessing the report of those early-bird fiascoes on the previous Saturday got back to Trump's National team, which led to the firing on Tuesday.

BOTTOM LINE:

If you care about truth and are looking for someone to get mad at, don't blame Cruz. Don't blame Trump. Don't blame Colorado. Instead: Blame Colorado Team Trump for one of the most incompetent ground games imaginable.
OTOH, If you couldn't care less about truth, and are only interested in creating a Goebbelsian "Big Lie" about the Colorado Republican Party because there's nothing like a good hatred-generating Blood Libel to get the partisans motivated to turn out for the upcoming NY Primary, then go ahead and have at it. But be forewarned there will be a price to pay for your lies about Colorado. Because if Trump does win the nomination - the likeliest scenario - there will be so many pissed-off Colorado GOPers sitting on their hands this Fall, that you better hope Colorado's 9 Electoral Votes aren't the deciding factor that gives us 8 years of "First Lady Bimbo Bill Klintoon" and four or five 20-25 year old DailyKos contributors sitting on the Supreme Court for the next 70 years straight.

Because all this BULLCRAP against Colorado is embittering a lot of us who every single day these past 4 days see the appearance of yet another hysterical lie against our home state that's easy to debunk if anyone cares, though 98% of the people reading the lie don't have the time or the google skills, or just don't care to do so, and thus will get all worked up against Republicans in Colorado.

I don't blame Trump for this travesty. I blame his supporters, especially on FR. If he gets the nomination, of course I will go out and support him this Fall. Anything is better than Hillabernie! But if I have to rub elbows with his supporters to do it, well, that's something that was a "given" up until this week, and is now in the "Iffy" column. So go ahead and make my day and help me make that decision. And maybe I'll spend this Fall figuring out creative ways to support Trump while avoiding all contact with his supporters.
