At one time the Florida Highway Patrol used T-Birds equipped with high performance 460 V-8s.
They were literally scary fast according to what I have heard.
Once around 1978 I was riding with my dad in his Plymouth Fury cruiser. It had a 440 magnum. He went after a guy speeding the other way. I watched the certified speedometer peg at 140 mph. It was a blast.
The Ohio Highway Patrol used Dodge and Plymouths in the mid 60’s with 426 Wedge engines.
In the mid-'60s, the Ford Galaxies that many state police departments used had a 427 with dual 4-bbl carbs. NASCAR engine, IIRC. When you think about the brakes, suspension and steering of the day - yeah, scary.
