It is really no different than the Iowa Caucuses.

BS. In Iowa, voters were allowed to attend the caucuses and actually vote for the candidate of their choice.

Wrong. Iowa is all about party members showing up at their county caucuses and participating in the delegate selection process. There is no voting in the traditional sense.
