I think it matters, because we’re also growing new liberal democrats that aren’t immigrants.
If you magically stopped all immigration tomorrow, the country would still being going down this road to hell.
Immigration isn’t the problem, China and Japan and Mexico aren’t the problem; America is not victims of these. If we don’t identify the problems correctly, think our ‘solutions’ are not going to work, and can even make things much worse.
I will quickly add that none of the candidates are very good at this, but I think Trump is by far the worst.

If immigration isn't the real problem what is?
The advantage of addressing immigration is its simplicity. Most immigrants vote Democrat. Stop them from becoming citizens and there are fewer Democrat voters. A vague notion like "America is going to Hell" doesn't lend itself to political solutions.
