August. Of 2015. This is when the rules for the Colorado Delegate selections were voted on and enacted. Neither Cruz nor Trump were candidates at that time.
Additionally, Trump could have tried to organize a slate of candidates, work at the grassroots level, but he didn’t. What effort he did put forth was slapdash and comical. When it all fell apart in the face of Cruz’ superior organization, legions of grassroots workers and general readiness, he simply fell back on blaming Cruz for “cheating” and “dirty tricks.”
He knew his followers would lap up such nonsense, and, as usual, none of you disappoint.

Perception is everything. The perception now is that Cruz is an insider for the Republican party and he is out to disenfranchise the voters. This is a gift to the Trump train to beat Cruz over the head every day until Trump exceeds 1237 which he will.
That is a lot easier to do with the establishment money and operatives that Ted has working for.
Blame Trump for being silly enough to think voters actually decide the nominee.

Are you kidding?
Cruz announced in March 2015, Trump in June. It would have made no difference what Trump did in Colorado; the deck was stacked against him. The corruption was only baked in by Cruz and the GOPe in August. Cruz has never been an outsider.

You’re wrong about that. Donald Trump announced in mid June 2015. In August 2015, if you recall, everyone was in a panic that Donald Trump was gaining popularity — it was right after the first debate.
Insiders acknowledge that Colorado decided to go voter-less as a way of skewing the delegate count to the front runner. They hadn’t counted on Donald Trump dispatching the presumptive front-runner, Jeb Bush.
Now, Ted Cruz is nothing more than a placeholder for the favored GOP candidate to emerge at the convention.
Trump announced June 16, 2015 - last I checked, June came before August.
Trump announced his candidacy June 16, 2015. By my count, that's at least a month and a half before these rules changes were inaugurated.
These rules changes came about largely so that Jeb wouldn't have a problem in the state. They greased the skids for him.
Unfortunately, Trump took off like an eagle. Bush foundered badly and dropped out.
But never underestimate the capacity of the GOP-E to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Emboldened by the national Stop Trump movement (which from the very start feverishly gripped the Establishment), they simply down-shifted a bit, and kept the original plan in place, to use against whatever sucker arose to supplant Jeb.
Another poster had it right - for Cruz, this is a Pyrrhic victory. The sheen is off this guy, having exposed himself to one and all that he is no "Principled Conservative".
In other words, to secure short-term gain, he's sacrificed a goodly portion of what was supposed to be his "base".
It's always fascinating watching a train wreck like this happening before your very eyes, in slow motion yet!
