Strange. One would have thought that a poster who's been on Free Republic since 1998 would prefer a government that follows the Constitution, not a dictatorship in which we are ruled by the elite few, and who have chosen to manipulate a naive Junior Senator with an outsized ego, clearly in over his head on the national scene.

And those "rules" have been in place since 2012, not 1860.

Pretty much. Back to the future ('08 and '12) as far as the GOP is concerned. We got close to true representation this time around, but the machine is fighting back with a vengeance. They've taken the measure of Cruz, and properly judged him as a Junior Senator with an ego the size of Texas and messianic delusions fed to him by his father. He's no match for their manipulative capabilities; they've been practicing these skills for 50 years. The only man who's ever managed to successfully tangle with the GOP machine and (mostly) win battles was Reagan - and he was much older than Ted. I say "mostly" because the GOP did succeed in placing a millstone around the Reagan Revolution in the name of GHW Bush.

But back to our naive Junior Senator, who has convinced himself he can take on this same machine - by taking their money and advisers! With the help of the lunatic Glenn Beck! I almost feel sorry for him.

They'll never let him get the nomination; they've got much more sinister plans for this upstart.

Cruz has no chance of reaching 1237 so using Cruzer logic the Nomination must go to someone with less Delegates than Cruz. Who has the fewest?

Should we not follow Cruzer logic to it’s end? The Principled Conservative thing to do “by the rules” is to nominate the least popular candidate that we have. Problem solved.

The odds of Trump getting to 1237 is getting slimmer. Odds makers are saying there’s a 70% chance the convention will be contested. Until Trump gets 1237, he hasn’t won anything. This is MAJORITY RULES not plurality rules. Delegates are bound on the first ballot, but after that, all bets are off. And this IS reflecting the will of the people, as Trump will have not won over the majority. And with his recent delegate bungling, Trump is showing he’s not up for the job.
