In the latest shock for the GOP, which in recent weeks some have speculated is willing to scuttle the entire republican presidential campaign if it means not having Trump as the candidate, according to a just released Reuters poll, one third of Republican voters who support Donald Trump could turn their backs on their party in November's presidential election if he is denied the nomination in a contested convention.
Or, as The Hill puts it, "blocking Donald Trump from the Republican presidential nomination with a contested convention would spell disaster for the GOP" because instead Trump supporters would vote Democrat, vote third-party or sit out the election.
Just 66% of Trump supporters, which as of this moment are the most numerous of any presidential candidate, said they would support the GOP's nominee anyway.
Should it get to a contested convention, the GOP could be hurt even more in November because 58% of Trump supporters said they would stay with the party, while 16% would leave and 26% responded they didn't know, yet.
The results are bad news for Trump's rivals as well as party elites opposed to the real estate billionaire, suggesting that an alternative Republican nominee for the Nov. 8 presidential race would have a tougher road against the Democrats.
I don’t see the down side of this, Trump and the GOP gone, Its a win-win.
Trump is the ONLY Republican with a chance to defeat the Globalists. Make up your mind. Do you want a FREE AMERICA where Liberty reigns or a Globalist piece of land where America no longer exists!
Your assessment is correct:
GOPe is in bed with the Democrats for a Hillary presidency.
See:
Tech billionaires (major Dem donors) plot with GOP leaders at exclusive island resort to stop Trump
There is currently a war going on within the GOP, between the gravy-trainers and the Conservatives.
All these polls are spewing nonsense. Don't trust any of them.
I doubt people would vote for Hillary if Trump is blocked. They will just stay home. If Cruz would win because the most people voted for him, I would support and vote for him. But if Trump gets the most votes and loses? Then it means we have already lost the country, voting doesn’t matter. I’m 74, and I may actually miss voting for the first time in my lifetime. Going fishing instead makes more sense.
Spoken like a TRUE HILLARY SUPPORTER.... go over to D.U. you'll have more similar company.
I think most GOPE are fine with Hillary win. Its the Cruz supporters Conservative that will get devastated because Cruz will get crushed in the general
I have no doubt you actually believe that, but Trump is the weakest of the three GOPers left standing, and the dems are salivating at the prospect of facing him in the fall.
I feel for you, I feel the same way (i'm 62), and it will be the first time since Gerald Ford 1976 (I was 22), that I didn't have the urge to vote for President with him on the ticket.
Oh yeah but Trum beats the $hit our of Cruz Primary, and the rest of the corrupt Republican degenerates. The only way Cruz wins is by cheating.
Hillary who is lucky if she has 50 people show up to a rally while Trump has thousands.
I see you let the liars in the Establishment media lead you around by your nose.
For the record I’ll never vote for that lousy sack of $hit Cruz under any circumstance.
It's not nastiness, it's courage. You're just not used to what a real fight looks like. Too many movies.
Yes, it will happen that way. If only TRUMP were young enough to run in 4 yrs, but I’m not sure that he would do this again.
Cruz will not defeat the globalists. He is one.
Nice try, Enny. I don’t buy propaganda from anyone, especially from backers of the orange-headed carnival barker.
Obviously you believe the propaganda. I do not! Trump is the ONLY Person who can bring America back from certain destruction by the globalists. America for AMERICANS, first and always.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUMP!
No Trump, no vote.
I won’t vote for Cruise, Kasich, Ryan or Romney under any circumstances. I don’t know what I’ll do otherwise that’s to be seen. I’m actually okay whatever party gets in. I have a federal pension. I’m not happy about Obama denying federal and postal retirees and SS recipients a COLA during three years of his Presidency, and the Federal Reserve, health care crony capitalists and banks are screwing us bad, but I’ll always have my pension, modest though it is.
Cruz wants the nomination despite that
1. Trump will have more votes won
2. Trump will have more states won
3. Trump will have more pledged delegates won
Considering how insane that is, I think he just wants to hurt Trump, forcing him to postpone starting to unite the party.
Cruz lost and now wants Trump to lose as well (the general election).
He has no chance of winning in November..
none.
==
He’s the only R with a chance, because he has the most base voters by millions. Simple math.
