I actually went for years without registering with a party affiliation. In fact, the first time I voted in a primary was, I believe, when GW Bush ran. I’ve been voting since 1980.

When I call myself “exDemMom”, it is not quite true: I have never registered as a Democrat.

So, anyway, I can’t fault Trump’s kids for not choosing. It is not strictly necessary for exercising one’s right to vote.

My husband isn’t registered with either party. It never bothered me until this primary season. He was just in our kitchen bitchin’ about the hit job that’s going on towards Trump. I wanted to say “well you should’ve changed your affiliation to republican then you could put your money where your mouth is”.

My husband and I registered both as Republicans in 1979 and we both always voted Republican in the primaries and the general election.

You are always asked in the primary election for which party you want to vote for and since we both are registered Republicans we naturally vote for the GOP candidate.

In the general election you can vote R or D, but neither my husband nor I have ever voted for a demonrat candidate and never will
