That was because despite todays hit movies, sniping is something you can quickly teach and use, and it is very useful in a defensive war, with huge piles of rubble that were formerly great cities.
You could shove a Nagant in a woman’s hand, put her in a building with food, and wish her luck.
But humping a sniper rifle in Afghanistan? Yeah, sure. Patience is cute, but it wont hump a .50 cal Barrett up to a position on the side of that hill.
And though Russian soldiers are often brought up, they aren’t used today. If they were so amazingly useful,,, why not?
Key word: "defensive". Women can do OK in an environment where they aren't going anywhere, just holding a position, and where men did the work of bringing her gear and supplies to her position.
The women snipers also knew that, if they allowed the Germans to get to them, things would get unpleasant. They had nowhere to run, and in the Russian army if you tried to run, you would get shot.
