The shadow battle for Republican convention delegates turns next to Colorado, where a days-long selection process will culminate this weekend -- and once again, it seems Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has the edge.
While Donald Trump still holds a wide delegate lead in the GOP presidential primary race, his Achilles heel has been a perceived weakness in his ground game. Seeking to capitalize on this, Cruz has outmaneuvered Trump lately in the behind-the-scenes battle for delegates in places that don't assign them through traditional primaries or caucuses.
Enter states like North Dakota, and now Colorado.
Both eschewed traditional primary elections and instead held conventions -- where delegates not necessarily bound to any candidate are selected. Cruz saw this as an opportunity anyway to get allies elected to the slate, banking on their support in the event of an open convention.

Sen. Ashley Cruz did not steal from Mr. Trump
or Dr. Carson (whom he also lied about to cheat
at a caucus). NO. The impetuous sociopath Cruz
has stolen from the People.
Cruz has lied to the People. re: ObamaTRADE and borders
Cruz has lied to his wife.
[who is neither Lollipop or Fiorina]
Cruz has lied to his supporters and voted to allow
the vote on ObamaTRADE thinking we are STUPID.
How can you be a member here and not want the people to have a voice?
And you relate the majority of 50 state primaries voting as Jerry Springer shows? That is a very asinine equation and an indicator of how little you value your fellow Republican citizens. And how you wish to subvert the primary process for your unethical lyin’ cheatin’ candidate. It’ down right shameful.
2,361,397 voted in Florida and a half million more chose Trump over Cruz. I bet your boys are scheming on how to bribe or cajole those 99 delegates away from Trump?. Maybe you should charter a plane and just fly them south towards Cuba rather than Cleveland for the RN Convention. That’s the Cruzan spirit! Eliminate the delegation, so you can win.
In California many more millions will have the opportunity to stand in line and VOTE! I bet you hate the fact that these Republicans get to vote and that their voice will have representation??
In Cali, the presidential candidate chooses his/her own delegates!!! You are really gonna hate California and most of their 172 delegates.
From an earlier thread:
LOYALTY matters. Whether it be in business, politics, or friendships, we all desire and respect loyalty. Lets consider the 172 member California Republican Delegation that will be seated in Cleveland for the RNC:
The selection of Presidential Nominating Convention Delegates to the Republican National Convention ... shall be chosen by the Presidential candidate who obtained the plurality of Republican votes within each Congressional district, and, for ... at large ... by the Presidential candidate who obtained the plurality of Republican votes statewide. [Standing Rules and Bylaws of the California Republican Party As Amended 20 September 2015 Article VI Section 6.01 (A)]
Each delegate to the Republican National Convention shall use his or her best efforts at the convention for the partys presidential nominee candidate from California to whom the delegate has pledged support until the person is nominated for the office of President of the United States by the convention, receives less than 10 percent of the votes for nomination by the convention, releases the delegate from his or her obligation, or until two convention nominating ballots have been taken. Thereafter, each delegate shall be free to vote as he or she chooses.... [California Elections Code Section 6461.(c)]

“Colorados delegates shouldnt be included in the 1237 needed to win. This is ridiculous.”
Neither Cruz, Trump, or Kasich chose how individual states choose their delegates—primary, caucus, or convention. They have to take each state the way that state put in place its mechanism to select delegates. Each campaign must adapt to it. If any campaign refuses to adapt, and wishes to complain about it instead because they don’t like the method of choosing delegates, that’s up to them.
I personally prefer primaries. But I wouldn’t want the federal behemoth dictating to states how the choose their delegates.
The Trump apparatus should stop whining and start adapting to different conditions in different states.
“Cruz is devious...He takes what he has not rightfully earned.”
_____________________________________________________________
You are wrong! First of all, CO does not even have a primary vote, so none of these delegates have been earned, by anyone! They are all unbound going into Cleveland!
Second, all the candidates have the right to nominate and/or schmooze their preferred delegates for election/selection in CO and at other state conventions. It’s the process!
In many states, Cruz-supporting delegates will still be bound on the first ballot to vote for Trump, Kasich, Rubio...whoever won in their local district. So, nothing has been stolen! The Cruz effort is intended to be ready for the second or third convention ballot in the event that Trump does not win 1,237 votes on the first ballot.
This story just shows that Cruz is well organized and has prepared for all contingencies of the election process...others were not prepared!
The raccoon video was cute!
Let me suggest nothing in the former case, and everything in the latter case.
Cruz on March 8: “If you want to beat him, you have to beat him at the ballot box.”
Cruz now—anything to win. What changed, hmmm?
What also happened March 8? The Texas Tribune published a story about Cruz reaching out to the Bushes through Charles Foster, an open borders immigration lawyer from Texas, who is now part of Cruz’s campaign. According to the Tribune, the GOPe didn’t reach out to Cruz, he reached out to them.

Then—win at the ballot box.
Now, after throwing in with the Bush machine—anything to win.

Cruz, like McCain, was introduced as a spoiler. As his and Obamas Con. Law professor, Larry Tribe pronounced in the Boston Globe, Cruz argued the oritinalist or conservative constitutionalist position as one of his best students. Yes, every Senator signed Senate Res 511, in which Judge and DHS Chair Chertoff pronounce the born to parents who were citizens requirement, and Larry repeated the jus soli - born on our soil - part of the requirement.
The strategy appears to be to define Cruz, who worked for, and currently includes, Bush family operatives at key positions on his committee. Cruz offers enough to naïve conservatives to throw a convention to the party controllers. They have already identified their likely candidate, Paul Ryan. It doesnt matter who they chose. It simply cant be Trump. Trump probably doesnt have hidden treasures in Panama. He doesnt owe anyone, as Cruz may, and Roberts appears to. Remember, from the refreshing honesty of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson, the exhaustive database containing every detail of the lives of our senior government officials. We are governed by corruption. Trump is a threat because his brand of corruption is already very public.
Cruz connection with Goldman Saches, with the CFR, with open boarders, the globalists with whom he grew up, are there, for those who look. He was a Canadian citizen when he became a Senator. His triple or quadruple citizenship at birth is no secret, but like Obama, neither partys untouchables will talk talk about it. Should one of them get bold, he/she will be reminded of Georgias Nathan Deal, who wrote an open letter to the White House demanded by his constituents and got his answer in the form of an IRS probe and letter from the Congressional Ethics committee. Cruz is doing his job for the powerful private corporation known as the Republican Party.
Cruz will disappear into the money machines of global banking after his moment of usefulness. He knows, better than most, the beliefs of our founders and framers and diplomats, Paine, Franklin, Hamilton, Jay, and Justices Jay, Marshall, Waite, Gray, Hughes, Black, and 14th Amendment author Bingham. Cruz, unlike most law school graduates, may have read Vattel and Pufendorf and Bynkershoek. He knows that all of these whose ideas he once defended, lauded, know Cruz cannot be a Constitutional president, unless we accept that the Constitution, as written, and decisions of the Supreme Court may be reversed by the legislature and executive. He knows the truth. So does Tribes other student, Barack Obama, but Barack didnt have to throw himself on the sword of history by lying about his citizenship status.
Obama correctly defined himself as native-born, but never a natural born citizen. Native-born comes from the language of the 14th Amendment meaning born on our soil. He knew his alien father violated the constitution, but Barack, like Larry Tribe, told us he doesnt regard the Constitution as current law. He subscribes, like Larry, to a Living Constitution. He told us long before he was made president, that to valid he wanted to add a block of positive rights, as FDR told us he wished to do.
John,
You were just called out by an individual who has been here for three weeks! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
It is not Trump’s fault that Cruz is using GOPe rules to subvert the will of the voters.
“And we know from the polls he cant beat Clinton or Sanders.”
Those polls say the same about Trump, and in both cases are meaningless at this point.
Well you can call Cruz organized but guess what the Senate has refused to give him?
Mitch McConnell: Why no, the Senate wont pass a resolution affirming Cruzs eligibility like it did for McCain

Cruz is going to have a tough time cashing in on all his delegates.
Ahhh, but they are.
Ah, I'm not pointing blame anywhere. I'm merely asking a Trumper, who seems to represent everything great about Trump, what Trump himself does or could do to change the vitriolic discourse. There is a vitriolic discourse, you know, and all parties now are mired in it, and all parties have to react to it, regardless of who "started it". All Trumps actions have helped mold the Never-Trump/Never-Cruz that exists; so, what policies, platforms, actions, statements exacerbate the situation versus migrate the discourse to a more congenial atmosphere where, perchance, the convention faced with all entrants under 1237 get together, talk about the issues, and how to defeat the 'Rats.
You still don’t know the difference between contested and brokered.
Do your homework.
Cruz, a month ago when he thought he could win at the ballot box:
“Cruz, fresh off victories in Kansas and Maine Saturday night, said there’s a difference between a movement against Trump led by the people, and an “illegitimate” movement to choose the nominee by the Republican establishment in Washington that would cause a “manifest uprising” against them in response.
‘There’s a difference there when that’s coming from the people, when it’s a battle of the people. A lot of the folks pushing a brokered convention in Washington don’t want it to be based on the people,’ he said. ‘They want to drop in their favorite candidate and try to stifle the will of the people. I think that would be an enormous mistake.’”

I am a more of a Constitutionalist than either of you ever have been.
The truth hurts freeper. Obviously you are not on the side of honesty, ethics, or freedom when it comes to supporting your particular candidate.
And you may sit here as a party hack operative or whatever for years, who really knows where you stand.
So laugh all you want and then cry when you realize that you effectively behave at the bidding of the GOP establishment thugs.
I fully understand the difference. I also know lawyer Ted has carefully used “brokered” instead of “contested” to make it appear that he’s against what he’s for.
Trump voters are really going to be impressed with such nuanced, lawyerly explanations when he desperately needs their vote in November.
I do know that.
I was mimicking a Cruzoid talking point .
Hot in Mumbai today or raining?
These are anti trump delegates regardless.
They will vote on a 2nd ballot to keep cruz under 1237.
