The shadow battle for Republican convention delegates turns next to Colorado, where a days-long selection process will culminate this weekend -- and once again, it seems Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has the edge.
While Donald Trump still holds a wide delegate lead in the GOP presidential primary race, his Achilles heel has been a perceived weakness in his ground game. Seeking to capitalize on this, Cruz has outmaneuvered Trump lately in the behind-the-scenes battle for delegates in places that don't assign them through traditional primaries or caucuses.
Enter states like North Dakota, and now Colorado.
Both eschewed traditional primary elections and instead held conventions -- where delegates not necessarily bound to any candidate are selected. Cruz saw this as an opportunity anyway to get allies elected to the slate, banking on their support in the event of an open convention.

What are these people smoking?
That is about to change.

It is sad that Sen. Goldman Cruz is more associated with
taking delegates from the People,
suddenly crypto-supporting SECRET ObamaTRADE,
being linked to a curious half million dollar payoff —
followed by FioRINO acting as his “wife” and “denying”
allegations ONLY HE COULD HAVE,
.... and “winning” only where People do not vote.
New, improved Team Trump utterly messes up the delegate wrangling process in Washington State.

Colorado’s delegates shouldn’t be included in the 1237 needed to win. This is ridiculous.
Ted’s way of handling Trumps delegates.(This is a must see.)
Cruz is devious. He acts like a thieving coon-badger because he is too pathetic to earn his own delegates.

He takes what he has not rightfully earned.
Once again, Ted has proven to be a religious hypocrite. <-Epic Fail
Whatever it is it seems better than the trance inducing stuff the Trumpazoids are toking down on.
Let me ask you this: Which is better, a loyal, devoted delegate, prepared to support your positions on rules, platform, and procedural matters as well as to vote for you on as many ballots as required, or an indifferent or even hostile delegate pledged only to vote for you on the first ballot, but otherwise free to vote and act independently?
Cruz seems to prefer the first type; Trump seems mostly content with the second. We'll see how it works out for both men in the course of time.
“eschewed traditional primary elections and instead held conventions — where delegates not necessarily bound to any candidate are selected”
Then they shouldn’t be included in the delegates needed to win.
No, this is down to earth, person to person politics, the way it has been played for years and years. I remain amazed at how little the Trumpazoids know about the political process. What are you, 14? This is how victories are won, on the ground with volunteers and lots of hard work. Not by flying in on your $50 million dollar jet, blathering on for an hour or two to your cult-like following before they go back to their Jerry Springer and WWE re-runs.
This is how nominations are EARNED.
They prefer to have a tiny cadre of party loyalists make their decision for them.
Tuesday 1 March 2016: Precinct Caucuses meet in each precinct at 7p MST to choose delegates to the County Assemblies and District Conventions. Caucuses last about 1.5 hours. There are 2,917 precincts.
There is no formal system applied in the Precinct Caucus to relate the presidential preference of the participants to the choice of the precinct’s delegates to the Colorado County Assemblies and District Conventions; (NOTE: It is the District Conventions and the State Convention that will actually elect Republican National Convention delegates to presidential contenders).
Exactly.
Only a month ago Cruz was against a contested convention:

Cruz, a month ago: “If you want to beat him,you have to beat him at the ballot box.” No core values, none at all.
Horseshit. Trump is too lazy and ignorant to do the work required to win delegates. He has been content to win the beauty contests, while ignoring the real work of developing strong delegate slates. That's why half of Trump's pledged delegates don't actually like him and would vote for someone else if they could. And guess what? Once the first ballot charade is over, they will.

This is how nominations are EARNED. And Ted Cruz is earning his nomination.
Cruz is still against a contested convention. But he plans to win even if there is a contested convention. This is the difference between professional planning and hard work, and an amateurs clumsy and ineffective bumbling.
It seems Trump may have failed the “I will hire the best” test. I have heard it is mainly too late to build an effective infrastructure although his new hire should certainly be of some help.
Ted Cruz cannot steal what Trump never had. it’s as simple as that. Trump has run a bumbling, shallow, stupid campaign while Cruz was building a solid, deep and effective nomination effort. I’d go so far as to wager that at least 30 percent of Trump’s pledged delegates are Cruz loyalists. That’s how stupid and ineffective Trump has been. How he has managed to do as well as he has in the business world without doing his homework amazes me. I think he has become enamored of his own imagined ability. But now, he has met his better.
Unfortunately, Cruz can’t win caucus’ or manipulate delegates in the general.
And we know from the polls he can’t beat Clinton or Sanders.
From your link...
“Any time you hear people talking about a brokered convention, I think that is the fevered talk of the Washington establishment,” he continued. “The Washington establishment is in a panic. They’re confused. They don’t understand what’s happening.”
Never in it does it say contested convention, because that would be moronic.
Every convention where more than two candidates are running is ‘contested’.
Someone doesn’t know the difference between ‘contested and brokered’.
Weak effort.
If Cruz is really against a contested convention, he will drop out when it becomes clear that he cannot win without a contested convention. Of course, he has already said he isn’t going to drop out.
Cruz is a great big honking hypocrite, by his own words.
