Let me get this straight. Americans elect Barky. His policies and leadership have shaped our military into what it is. And now they expect one 4-star to resign. Because of their votes?

Let's play out your thinking. Barky accepts his resignation. And then what? He selects another. Does the next one need to resign? And so on? Running this to its logical conclusion, all general officers have to walk. Because Americans chose poorly.

How do our enemies respond during all of this?

How many election cycles have we gone through? If American wanted a substantive change, it should have happened.

It's a romantic view of a white knight riding in to save us from ourselves. Too much television.

You didn’t answer my questions, but the key to the ones you raise in post 47 is in the word “leadership.”

I don’t believe a warrior’s oath mentions that his service and commitment depend on anyone’s votes. Nor is anyone asking the general to stage a coup to override the will of the people.

Is it “romantic” to expect him to serve and protect, not to serve and collect?
