Poll: Hefty Slice Of Virginia’s GOP Will Bolt If Trump Is Nominee [Trump "Hindenburg"]

Poll: Hefty Slice Of Virginia’s GOP Will Bolt If Trump Is Nominee

By Laura Vozzella April 7

RICHMOND — Nearly a third of Virginia Republicans will vote for Hillary Clinton, pick a third-party candidate or sit out the election if Donald Trump is the GOP’s nominee for president, a new poll finds.

Democrats in the key swing state are far less likely to defect if Clinton is the nominee, with just 9 percent saying they would vote for someone else or stay home on Election Day, according to a Christopher Newport University survey released Thursday.

Trump’s “loyalty gap,” as CNU researchers dubbed it, could cost the celebrity developer the race in Virginia, where the survey finds the former secretary of state leads Trump 44 percent to 35 percent.

The poll, conducted CNU’s Wason Center for Public Policy, comes just two days after Republicans and Democrats alike expressed dissatisfaction with their parties’ respective front runners by handing Wisconsin primary victories to Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Bernie Sanders.

The CNU poll was designed to see how that intraparty angst would play out in Virginia if Trump and Clinton ultimately face off in the general election.

“We found a real loyalty gap,” Quentin Kidd, director of the Wason Center, said in a written statement. “If Donald Trump turns out to be the Republican nominee, it’s clear that a very significant proportion of Republican voters will either defect or stay home. But it looks like most Democrats — even those who backed Bernie Sanders in the March primary — would support Clinton.”

Cruzbots are utter morons helping the GOPe and Hillary.

Trump supporters are well meaning, albeit inadvertent helpers of the GOPe and Hillary.

But what about FReepers who say their sitting out or voting for Hillary if Cruz is the nominee? Are they traitors and will they be banned like others?

Pro Trumpsters, I humbly ask that you consider not donating to FR until this endless barrage of Anti-Trump screeds stops. 2DV for example is a traitor to one of the best conservatives we have, Sarah Palin. Steelfish and 2DV are turning this place into a toilet. I’ve put up with it long enough, no more money for FR.

Merely another attempt at voter suppression and intimidation by the MSM.

About 33% of Trump supporters are saying NO TRUMP NO VOTE AND NO MONEY EVER. The difference is we mean it.

You'd rather see Hillary elected than vote for Cruz???

40% will bolt if Cruz and his GOPe buddies get their way.

I would support a Trump 3rd parry very soon.

Trump got 1.1 million votes in FL. Obama won FL by 80k votes in 2012. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where a Cruz headed GOP ticket is headed: The dust bin of history.

Seem to be quite a few Republicans intent on subverting the will of the electorate and destroying the party.

Yes. And right now they are trolling Trump delegates trying to get them to subvert the will of those who voted for Trump.

First of all, Cruz will be mathematically eliminated. There is no way possible of him reaching 1237. Would require too many miracle finishes. But if he does become the nominee via convention shenanigans, the FReepers swearing not to vote for him will no longer be FReepers.

FR is going to do whatever we possibly can to defeat the God-hating, America-hating, constitution-hating, capitalism-hating communist/socialist/fascist totalitarian democrats!!

Anyone who works against us on this is no FReeper and will be booted!!

You need to get this Trump Kool-Aid about “manipulating” the delegates out of your mind. Ford did that to Reagan. The rules are the rules. Anyone who does not vote against Hillary or Bernie has no grounds to be called a conservative in any sense of that term

Absolutely. And that includes the Cruz supporter Romney Rule: write in the candidate of your choice. Turnabout is fair play, FRiend.

Either Trump will get the nomination and the #NeverTrump voters will refuse to vote for him or Cruz will get the nomination and the #OnlyTrump voters will refuse to vote for him.

Never Trumpers are firmly on the GOP plantation. They have nowhere to go. OTOH, the natural response to Never Trump is Never GOP. It will be a rough night down ballot for the GOP if they steal the nom from Trump.

Latest polls out of both MD and NY have Cruz in 3rd place. No money Kasich is a bigger threat to Cruz than Trump right now.

I think we are going to see more and more of these stories to try to lay the groundwork to provide some cover for the elites as they try to steal the nomination from Trump.

Patriots will vote for whomever is the Republican nominee, because AMERICA is more important than our own personal feelings about a candidate. If we don’t unite around the Republican nominee, then we get #NeverHillary or #SocialistSanders.

People need to start picking sides. I know where I stand. On the side of AMERICA.

Amen brother. Had Romney won we would have not had all the nonsense of the last four years, including some of the court findings as new leadership sways judges. Don’t doubt it.

Romney was far from perfect, but he was and is a good person who would have been a good POTUS.

Nearly a third of Virginia Republicans will vote for Hillary Clinton, pick a third-party candidate or sit out the election if Donald Trump is the GOP’s nominee for president, a new poll finds.

Options 2 & 3 above sort of make sense.

Option 1 is sheer madness. What sort of dolt thinks: "I support {Trump|Cruz} but if {Cruz|Trump} is the nominee, I'll vote for the Hildebeeste"? Regardless of whether you're supporting Trump or Cruz, Hildebeeste is the exact OPPOSITE of what you're supporting.

The untold story is the number of Democrats who will not vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, but are saying they will support Trump instead in such an eventuality.

That doesn't make any sense either. Anybody who actually wants Bernie Sanders to be President would hate Cruz or Trump.
