The main reason why businessmen in the North wanted to end slavery is because that would knee-cap the South economically and it would be easier to have industry-protecting tariffs in place, with the South put in its place.

Now that they can profit from overseas slavery, I find it a big hilarious that the same kind of people today are in favor of buying slave goods from Malaysia. Venal, immoral, evil people who if there is a Hell, will burn in it.
