Cruz and the Bush’s are friends.
Bushes supported Dewhurst. George the Younger did NOT like Cruz beating George at the SCOTUS level about Texas complying with Bush policy on a state decision.
The Bushes are "friends" with Cruz the way Rick Perry is a "friend" with Cruz. They have some friends and interests in common, and it is the best alliance they can make.
In the same way, Christie is a "friend" of Trump, and Reagan was a "friend" of George Bush the Elder.
