When no candidate gets 1237, the nomination will go to what you call a minority anyway.

In your scenario, the party picks the candidate. That’s exactly what the GOPe wants to do, bypass the will of the people. Ironic that them doing this for decades is why most GOP voters prefer Trump.

Because they are all minorities, of course.

The party leaders in Washington, what most people mean by "GOPe", will not pick the candidate. The delegates from every state and district all over America will pick the candidate. These people are not the GOPe. They are the delegates sent there to support their candidates.

The party has to end up with a nominee or else they just cede the election to the Democrats. If ideas matter, if politics matter, then requiring a majority of delegates is the only way to do it.
