RIP Merle. Loved all of your music (including “Okie from Muskogee”) during my days in university while my peers were spaced out on grunge and Led Zeppelin and alternative.

I listened to an interview he gave on Sirius XM radio (Willie’s Roadhouse) earlier this year when he was initially hospitalized for pneumonia.
He didn’t sound good then.
All of the old country is passing.
RIP MH.

I don’t know a whole lot by Merle Haggard, but this is one of my faves that he sings on with Willie Nelson. It makes a great road trip song so I played it for my kids the other night as we were heading back from Southern, CO. RIP.

I was just watching a you tube of him a few weeks back - I had been watching Buck Owens vids and Merle was doing impressions of other Country singers....pretty neat. Great voice - Ive enjoyed his music
I hate to say it - but Willie is looking tired too

Saw him perform with Marty Robbins, Merle, a great fiddle player as well along with writing some of the greatest country songs ever. IMHO, there are not many who wrote songs the caliber of “I’m a Lonesome Fugitive” and many others. “Turn me loose” and so on.

Thanks for your music Merle. You’ve given us a lasting gift.

Farewell Merle. Bon voyage. I hope you’re in a better place and reunited with those who’ve gone before. You were always one of my favorites, and I miss you.
