California Won’t Fall Into The Sea — It’s Moving To Texas Instead

California Exodus: One can make only so many jokes about the Golden State becoming the Tarnished State. But California has done nothing to change the climate causing the decline. People are still leaving in swarms.

Red Texas is, of course, the primary destination for those fleeing blue California. And the evacuation has nearly reached a 10-year high: According to Internal Revenue Service data, 33,626 Californians quit their state for Texas in 2013 and 2014, out of the 250,000 who left the state.

“The number of returns showing address changes from California to Texas hasn’t been this high since the period 2006-07,” the Washington Free Beacon reported Thursday. “During that period, 34,078 returns were filed showing address changes to Texas.”

At the same time, only 21,391 Texans made the reverse trip.

These sobering numbers are backed up by U-Haul rates that show the demand for moving vans leaving California for Texas is much higher than the demand for vans heading in the opposite direction. (See chart.)

Not only is California losing its human capital, it’s also being drained of its businesses. Carl’s Jr. is leading the most recent wave out of the state. Two years ago it was Toyota, which said it was relocating “substantial parts” of its U.S. headquarters from Torrance, Calif., to suburban Dallas. In the last decade, as many as 9,000 businesses have fled the state.

Between the California immigration, Hispanics, and internecine Republican wars I’ve read where some experts believe Texas will be a purple state in less than 10 years.

I wouldn't bet on it......since I've heard the same thing from my liberal son-in-law.

My response?

His oldest two children know how to fish, hunt, shoot guns/bows and are learning about the 2nd amendment, self sufficiency, Govt over reach and that the only "labels" that mean anything are "Texan" or "American".

Will start "educating" his youngest child as soon as he gets out of diapers.

That’s why democrats say Texas will go blue in 3 presidential elections. Democrats already have a head start on electoral college. I think it’s possible republicans will end up being a small regional party eventually. Of course throwing Cruz down our throats when voters don’t want him won’t help.

They’ve been moving to the Lone Star State and turning it into the New Kaliforia for years. I absolutely hate it.

Sorry I was actually away from FR for an hour or so.

Any longer than that and the hives set in.

Yes, if you don’t know Zevon’s long and illustrious (in a lunatic kind of way) you have some great listening awaiting you.

Rock on!

Maybe they will all end up in Austin and make it even weirder!

Don’t Californicate Texas!

Isn't Austin doing a pretty bang up job of that?

Personally I would let him loose during drive time...not exactly restful material from ol’ Warren.

They call him the singer-songwriter of California Noir.

He lived a weird quirky/kinky often solitary life, with many of the years into his 40s defined by booze, drugs and very brief hook-ups.

After that he gave up the booze and drugs...but still roamed and romanced very much on his own on the road.

Lonely dude, very gifted, very haunted...plagued even by serious OCD through his middle years and until he died, I think.

He would open fifteen or twenty cans of soda before he hit one that he felt was “lucky”...that kind of thing.

But it is music AND lyrics of a very high order.

Enjoy!
