Drug cartels and terrorists are crossing the border with impunity; Mexico is not cooperating with the US in stopping them. Affect the billions of dollars in remittances and they’ll see the light. They’ll get on board.

I’m not sure if the FISA court is the right one, but similar I suppose.

Kidding right?

The real question is when will the ACLU go after the schlub at Western Union for profiling people in sombreros speaking only spanish using a P.O. Box as a US address.

Its all money going in to Mexico via transfer, it doesn’t matter who is sending it, they aren’t going to recieve it.

Personally, I think the money should be invested with the profit going to pay down our national debt.

Here we have it. He intimated about this before but I thought he wanted to take the money out of the mail or something.

Actually, putting a 20% “service fee” on ANY money transfers out of the country would be my preference.

It would cover not just these remittance by individuals, but vendors paying foreign suppliers. This would be an alternative to tariffs on goods from China, Germany, etc. All of those countries tack on a 20% VAT when American made goods are sold in their countries. That is in addition to any actual tariffs they slap on our goods. By adding a 20% service fee onto payments to those foreign suppliers, it would balance the VAT they are slapping on our stuff.

If foreign companies have the money placed into American banks and use that money to buy American goods to be exported back to their home countries, fine. Where there is no trade deficit, there would be no money transferred, but no trade deficit would mean a boost to American businesses and an increase in tax revenues from those businesses and workers.

They get 25Billion in money transfers a year, it is most of their economy. They will cave pretty quickly. And I say invest it and use the profit to pay our other expenses.

Having sent Western Union funds to wayward children, I can tell you that you have to set up an account with that service so you can’t send anonymously. The fees are also really hefty.

OK, I’ve been hearing this bashed all day.. We most certainly have ways to get to this wire transfer money. First, all legal Americans are to pay taxes on monies made any place in the world during their entire life. Then comes the death taxes (granted, different by State/Fed by income etc). But we also have an Ex-patriot tax. It too is complex, but, don’t think you’ll work and save your whole life, then duct out to avoid the death tax. Uncle don’t play dat. In this discussion, we could all consider sending a few bucks out of the US each week and not be bothered. Point is, we can’t do it, but all day they say “How can we track this, or stop this. One article stated the World Bank tracks it! Tax the transfers, save it for the wall, for now. Later?? End of rant!

++++
The GDP of Mexico in 2016 is about $1.5 Trillion. That’s $1500 Billon. Take out your calculator and divide 25 by 1500 and multiply by 100 to get percent. That turns out to be a little under 1.7%.

“... Most of their economy.”
I don’t think so. And it is naive to think that much of that money wouldn’t eventually make it back to Mexico. This is just not enough leverage to convince Mexico, macho Mexico, to give in to Trump.

Back to the drawing board.

What’s your point ? Those fees are going to Western Union, not the government. As a way to collect taxes from illegals working here and paying no taxes, and collecting taxes on imported goods that obviously have no embedded US taxes, placing GOVERNMENT fees on transfers would be effective.

Sending money to your kids overseas (or having banks charge the fee when paying foreign vendors where you used your credit card while vacationing overseas) might deserve an exemption. All the data for the transactions is being kept by the financial institutions, so such details can be worked out.

Take it up with Rush.

You have a better plan? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

I don’t have a plan. I expect Trump to ask Congress for $10 billion or so for the wall and he will get it

Thus, a fee for money being sent out would seem to make sense. If the sender was a taxpayer there would be no fee, but otherwise use the fee appropriate to the earning level of the sender. For most poor working illegals that would be the 15% tax bracket, so perhaps 10% as that would take Deductions and Exemption tax reductions into account. For big transfers, indicating high income levels a much higher rate, tax that drug money.

Are we already in Idiocracy?

First, there was a "Great Wall of Trump"... now, there's another grandiose Trump idea: "let them eat cake pay for it."

People can transfer the money to almost anywhere in the world, so the only money transfers to Mexico will be from gringos bailing out their friends and relatives tourists (I would expect more incidents of that happening... sooner than later). Mexicans in the U.S. would just set up different, inexpensive alternative channels for sending regular remittances.

Oh, and did The Donald hear about digital currencies that people use to transfer money from countries like China? There already are or will be TrumpCoin, MexicanCoin, FUDJTcoin, at least for a few months until enough people would be sufficiently pissed off for Trump to declare a "great success" and put the kibosh on yet another "brilliant" harebrained Donald "Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho" Trump idea.

Rolling Stones (of the free concert for "culturally starved" Cubans fame) were right about Trump:
"If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
I've been running hot
You got me ticking gonna blow my top
If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
I'll never stop
You make a grown man cry
Spread out the oil, the gasoline
I walk smooth, ride in a mean, mean machine...

Love the day when we will never stop, never stop
Never stop, never stop
Tough me up
Never stop, never stop, never stop..."
