Donald Trump took 5 different positions on abortion in 3 days (video documentation)
Washington Post ^ | 4/3/2016 | Philip Bump

You can see the exact moment last week that Donald Trump made up his mind on whether women would face criminal punishment once he signed new restrictions into law. He is at a town hall with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, and, after Matthews badgers him for a while, he finally answers the question.

“The answer is ... that,” Trump says, eyes looking to the side in thought, “there has to be some form of punishment.” He punctuates “has” with a hand gesture. Done. Final.

But as it turns out — and as it has turned out repeatedly over the course of his life — that was not, in fact, Trump’s final position on the subject. This past week alone, he has held multiple contradicting positions, including that one. So we figured that a timeline was in order, so that you could see the date and time and know, concretely, what Trump’s abortion position was at that moment.

Though he might deny it.

April 1989

Trump co-sponsored a dinner at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan (which he then owned) honoring Robin Chandler Duke, a former president of NARAL. He chose not to attend, the New York Times reported, after his family was threatened by anti-abortion activists.

Oct. 24, 1999

Ten years later, Trump appeared on NBC in an interview with Tim Russert.

Asked about abortion, he’s clear.

“I’m very pro-choice,” Trump says. “I hate the concept of abortion. I hate it. I hate everything it stands for. I cringe when I listen to people debating the subject. But you still — I just believe in choice.”

Russert clarifies his original point: Would you ban partial-birth abortion? “No,” Trump replies...

Abortion is a moot point currently. SCOTUS would have to be over ridden.

Having a President that is an enthusiastic and public defender of human life wouldn't help in winning the debate in the court of public opinion?

The next president could appoint 3-4 new justices to the USSC? is that important? If so, would you trust a president that has been steadfast in his support for stopping the murder of the most innocent and vulnerable among us, or a guy who has been all over the board?

Are you a defeatist or are you just not pro-life? Both?

This is just one of many points where the Trumpkins are inconsistent. They insist that Trump will be able to change the tax code, build the wall, change the visa system, balance the budget, etc. When you point out that Congress has to pass all of those things, they immediately pipe up that "Trump will go directly to the people, and Congress will be afraid to defy him."

Then the subject of abortion comes up, and their response is "the president can't do anything about that, so it doesn't matter that Trump is all over the map on that topic". So which is it? Will Trump be able to bend Congress to his will or not? And if he can, why wouldn't he be able to get them to pass a bill overturning Roe v. Wade? (Despite popular opinion, you don't need a Constitutional amendment - a statute that returned the issue to the state and denied the federal courts jurisdiction over the matter would suffice.)

Exactly and bingo!

They believe Trump will supply the leadership when it comes to all those other issues but not when it comes to killing the pre-born. Which begs the question, are they not pro-life? Many of them refuse to defend the right to life here so I also wonder about their candidate's commitment to doing so.

The defeatism and unwillingness to defend life is troubling.

>> Trump can't keep the same position for 30 weeks <<

Oh, c'mon. Don't be so cruel. Cut the poor guy some slack. At least he has been able to hold a few positions for 30 minutes. And that's important!

Moreover, if his uppity aides like Corey, Katrina and Hope didn't keep rushing out to "clarify" his statements, I'll bet Mr. Trump could some position or another for maybe 30 hours.

Que Trump Soit Trump!

Yet another proof of Mr. Trump's stunning brilliance!

I tell you, this man's IQ is so off-the-charts as to make Einstein, Newton and Galileo seem like kindergarteners!

Mitch McConnell’s Attorney PAC Stand For Truth, Sending Money To Ted Cruz PAC Keep The Promise III

There just is no discussion with Cruz supporters. They close their eyes to who is running his campaign, who is funding it, who is using him. But they think he retains his independence to be a true Conservative. I just don't understand this willful blindness.

When was the last time a conservative won a national election by self funding? Yeah, it's never happened, yet Reagan was able to maintain his conservative bonafides. Maybe there is no such thing as true Conservative to you.

Of course, how Trump's history of being on both sides of the issues and supporting rabid liberals qualifies him as a true Conservative remains a mystery. I just don't understand this willful blindness.

Core beliefs would be nice, but this is a man who disqualifies himself before the issue of core beliefs would even be considered - because he is too stupid and incompetent to handle media questions on a topic that has been of major significance in every national election for at least the last 40 years.
The inescapable conclusion is that either Donald Trump respects the presidency so little that he can’t be bothered to do even basic level research on any number of key issues or he is just dumb as a box of rocks. Take your pick - it doesn’the matter.

I'll try this again: Does it concern you in any way that the GOPe of today, (not the one of Reagan's day), the Establishment, the one we have railed against for all the dirty-dealing they have done to us, is by and large backing Cruz?

They back Cruz simply because they hate him less than Trump and because he's not saying and doing things that will alienate lots of voters - see Trump negatives.

To say that Cruz is GOPe is nonsense that cannot be supported by fact. The GOPe of 1976, said and did lots of things to hurt Reagan. They cast him as an ultra conservative religious zealot war monger who would lead the world to nuclear war while forcing us to live under Puritan laws. They even did it again in '80. Very little is different today. The only difference is you thinking it's different.

Your point of view is opaque to those of us who once supported Cruz, but came to the realization that he is in consort with the globalists, which does not concern you.

Do you think Cruz is on the side of TPP and will work with the GOPe for passage & implementation? To me, this is the single biggest issue of this campaign, and I see Cruz as on the wrong side.

"Do you have any evidence that Trump is the father of an aborted child?"

No, but he is obviously fertile, and his womanizing makes Bill Clinton look like a monk. The Hillary research team is likely investigating the subject in a big way.

Trump has raped half-a-dozen women? Trump has harassed scores of women? Trump has inserted cigars into female underlings? Trump makes Bill Clinton look like a monk?

When you are prepared to return to the Milky Way galaxy, let us know.

Thanks for letting me know, in the meantime, that you are the kind of person who would accuse a man of forcing multiple women to have abortions on the basis of nothing but your hallucinations.
