As Capitol Hill aides have explained, amongst Washingtons GOP political class Ryan is regarded as the Republican Jesus.
Indeed, National Review, which helped put the third world migration enthusiast Paul Ryan into the Speakers office, seemed to embrace the idea of nudging him into the Oval Office. National Reviews deputy managing editor penned a piece entitled,
Paul Ryan for President! writing: One can imagine a case where Trump and Cruz control 60 to 70 percent of the vote between them, and neither one will budge, and no other candidate or boss will consider helping either one. Then it will be time for a respected and inoffensive candidate to offer a contrast to all the strong personalities in the Republican race, and Ryan is nothing if not Mr. Acceptable.
Speaker Paul Ryan is emerging as the Republicans biggest counterweight to Donald Trump, The Hill wrote in January.
Since Trumps philosophy is so opposite of Ryans, if Trump were to win Wisconsin, it would be seen as a wholesale rejection of Ryan Republicanism. Losing Wisconsin would be politically devastating for Ryan and would make it exceedingly difficult for him to emerge out of the contested convention. As such, Wisconsin is a must-win for Ryan via a proxy of his policy viewpoints, Ted Cruz.
Paul Ryan and corporate media have sought to frame the GOP Civil War of voters versus donors and donor proxies (i.e. Fox News, Republican publications, and various corporate-owned radio networks) as a battle waged over something as frivolous as candidates tone rather than the substantive policy divisions between the electorate and the Partys corporate funders.

Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) 97% political ideology is in line with Ryans brand of Washington think-tank conservatism
Rep. Paul Ryan 56%
Funny Breitbart puts ratings up from Conservative Review on each person they talk about. Why? Because they value those ratings. But we are to take their word that Cruz is the same as Ryan. Just the same birds of a feather. Two equal GOPe schemers.
Now if I put two birds in my outstretched hands and one weighs about 50% less than the other, they ain't the same.
One is about as close to perfect as it gets. Not perfect, but second most perfect by their standards. Only Senator Mike Lee is rated higher. Cruz is rated A+, the Ryan rated F.
Do you not see the hypocrisy here, the blatant spin Breitbart has while claiming the other sites are the ones with the obvious chip on their shoulders.
The turkey in this story is the authors of this stinker.
Trump’s disgraceful antics bought this on himself.
What’s wrong with the GOPe drafting a Clinton/Saunders ticket? Thus ending the pretense that the GOPe and the Dems are different Parties. Single Payer insurance, single Party government, single.... what could go wrong with that?
Works great in Cuba, North Korea and other enlightened societies. Equality for all (other than the elite anyway). Putin in Russia, Obama in US, Castro in Cuba, what’s the diff? Forward!
I am 100% all in for Trump, but facts are facts.
A contested convention isn’t being created by Ted Cruz, or Paul Ryan, or anything but a failure by Donald Trump to win 1237 delegates within the complex and confusing thicket of rules governing delegate selection. If he fails to win, he loses.
Now, obviously, Cruz will not under any circumstances be the nominee. Therefore, if Trump loses, the nominee will be Ryan, or Jeb Bush, or Mitt Romney.
It will be Trump, or it will be one of those three.
You cannot change the Narcissist type which Trump is....nor can he change himself....he is just what we've been seeing and this will continue if he wins the Presidency. He'll use all those he calls friends, and dump them . That's why he is relationships are so few and distant. He cannot retain/maintain longer term relationships...thus even personally on wife no. 3.
Exactly right. The Trump fanboys however see some great GOPe conspiracy. The GOP is not obligated to nominate someone out to destroy it.
I wouldn’t vote for Ryan or anyone not running under any circumstances. If they pull this stunt I might just drive up to Cleveland and say hello to the GOPe before they all disburse (to the thunderous sound of clapping themselves on the back).
If they pull this stunt, assuming I’m still alive and not in jail, I’ll vote for Bernie or the old bat out of spite. And if Trump then goes 3rd party, I’ll go door-to-door to ask people to vote for Trump.
You don’t understand.
The Trump fans don’t believe that a runner must cross a finish line to win, rather that it’s enough if he leads much of the way.
The race is still going on, but they want to call it now, just because their man is out front.
And you’ll get flaming incoherant replies if you think otherwise.
As a matter of law, they aren't owed anything. All of the "promises" made by Congress are lies.
“or write in trump”
That is what I will do if it comes to that.
The picture is becoming clear right now. The GOPe is poised for the biggest win of their existence. We think that they are not listening, but they are. They succeeded in dividing us into warring camps and now they are poised to deliver the fatal blow.
The GOPe is well aware that they are not trusted; that there is a revolt brewing and they will stop at nothing to silence dissent. Take a step back and look at what’s happening. Trump burst on the scene and proceeded to change politics.
They have succeeded in splitting us into Cruz and Trump camps. The rancor increases daily. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. Now comes talk of Paul Ryan as a compromise in a brokered convention. They know he can’t win outright; but they’re betting that, in a three or four way race, nobody gets the electoral votes needed to be elected.
If that happens, the election goes to the House. If that happens, they win with Ryan either getting the majority needed or by virtue of being next in line of succession.
And, as usual, we get screwed. Yes, it’s complicated bUt it covers all eventualities. EXCEPT ONE - RYAN GETS BEAT IN THE PRIMARY.
GOPe bump for later.....
But that is exactly why the creeps have come out of the woodwork for Trump.....when Hollywood gets on board the Trump train news cycle then you know the plan to destroy our Government and replace it with “something else” is moving right along.
But not one Trump ‘fanboy” has stated what the “something else” will be. They are not prepared, nor is there anything we ‘re aware of standing by to fill that void.....Trump certainly doesn't have his ducks in a row...many won't even associate with him.
Easy to see the potential for an Oligarchy should he win the Presidency....or worse.
“The GOP is not obligated to nominate someone out to destroy it.”
And that is what the battle is all about. We do not like the corrupt status quo. IMHO a vote for Cruz is a vote for the corrupt status quo.
Oh please. The prospects for this forum depend on entirely different factors. It started when Clinton was in office, and grew dramatically then. Similar to Limbaugh, the fortunes of a chat forum tend to improve when facing an opponent. Having a Clinton in office again would be the best thing that ever happened to FR.
I'm not suggesting that this is what motivates Jim Robinson or the posters here. I'm just remarking that the factors that drive the success or failure of FR are different from the factors that drive the success or failure of any candidate.
A significant fraction of FR posters sit out certain election contests. Big deal. Parties and candidates win on their own merits. Blaming the voters is a cop out.
“The race is still going on, but they want to call it now, just because their man is out front”
Not at all. It is all the bs by the GOPe that is going on. Look no further than Colorado where the primary vote was canceled. Tennessee???
The Cruz fans must be so proud.
If the GOP was honest (it is not), it would have declined to allow Trump to run under the GOP banner. Well, it took in the tender snake! Bwahahahahaha.
