(NBC) - Donald Trump says he regrets retweeting an unflattering photo of the wife of rival Ted Cruz, a rare move for the Republican front-runner more known for his boasts than backtracking.
"Yeah, it was a mistake," Trump told New York Times.
"If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have sent it."
The retweet set off a war of words between the two candidates, and gave fresh fuel to Democratic candidates and other critics who marveled at a Republican presidential race that had descended into a fight over the candidates' wives.
Trump retweeted the photo compilation showing an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz and his own wife, Melania, after he accused Cruz of being behind or at least knowing about an ad that featured an old picture of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ magazine.
Cruz has denied any involvement in the ad, which was shared online. Cruz scolded Trump after the retweet, admonishing the businessman: "Donald, real men don't attack women."
told Dowd, according to the column. "So what's your next question?"
hey they are adults, they will sort it out.
Did you absorb the information?
I never said she did....it’s common sense a wife will support and campaign for her husband. It doesn’t give Donald Trump an excuse to be an moron and tweet an unflattering photo....something he himself just said was wrong and he wished he had not done it. Yet! You are still defending it!!!
The owner to the rights of the Melania photo’s said it was BS...he didn’t sell it to anybody.
It is amusing that some folks look to a political campaign to find examples of impeccable etiquette and examples of feats of manliness.
You’ll find neither, nor should you.
If it’s too rude and raw for your sensibilities, then don’t watch. Find a safe space and read a Dr. Seuss book.
What a crock...Melania has said the same in different words....its called supporting your husband....any intelligent person knows when someone runs for president their whole family is involved.....you just want an excuse for Trumps crassness!!!
A common sense person knows when they are being conned and lied to. There is NOT one shred of evidence Melania ever used the words Donald and I are running... More to the point, it is Heidi that wrote Cruz's VAT tax proposal... Again, Ted and Heidi are reenacting bjClinton and Hillry's run for co-presidency.
It’s a campaign speech about things Ted Cruz did while in the Senate all Senators have votes they wished they had not made...if you are going to hold Ted accountable then let’s talk about what Donald has said and done in the past!!!
Where is everywhere?
Ok...well at least you know...and are ok with it.
Those are my words....like most Trumpers you read what you want!!!
Your first paragraph: This is what Roger Stone has said. It’s all Trump. He doesn’t have people telling him what to say.
He has made a few mistakes, but what is amazing is that everything he says comes solely from him, and is spontaneous and unrehearsed. Those who don’t understand our loyalty to Trump might try to see it in those terms. When Donald speaks you are listening to a man speaking from the heart—not a committee and not a platform. Most important of all, not a weasly conglomeration of ammunition to get himself elected.
Are you OK with Trumps past declarations....would you like for me to post some of them???
It is the Cruz disability that distorts everything from the Constitution right down to lying accusations
Facts only irritate them!!!
It was a retweet. Someone else did the searching. That may seem like a small point but it’s easy to “share” and retweet, easy to make a false move.
Anywhere devoted to the apotheosis of Trump.
Cruz has denied any involvement in the ad, which was shared online.
Surrogates post the ad, Cruz denies culpability. Typical slippery lawyer answer.
==
Quite frankly I can’t remember a dirtier campaigner than Cruz, or maybe it’s just the hypocrisy of the “principled conservative”.
RE: The Cruz ad asked the question: Is this who you want for first lady?
The ad says: “Meet Melania Trump, Your Next First Lady”
Ted Cruz has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE AD.
It says below the ad,
Paid for by Make America Awesome, not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.
