Why Should ‘Never Trump’ Mean Ted Cruz? (The Times prefers Kasich)
The New York Times ^ | April 1, 2016 | The Editorial Board

With more than half of the 2016 presidential primary races in the history books, Republicans desperate to deny Donald Trump their party’s nomination now say Wisconsin, where Ted Cruz is leading, will show that their effort has turned the tide. They shouldn’t start bragging yet.

At a televised Republican town hall on Tuesday, it was painful to watch farmers, students and a man whose son died of a drug overdose pose earnest questions to Mr. Trump and Mr. Cruz, who were more interested in attacking each other. Only John Kasich connected with these voters.

Despite its noble aim and big budget, “Never Trump” has become a panicky reaction in search of a strategy. In Wisconsin, “Never Trump” means “How About Cruz?” as self-interested leaders like Gov. Scott Walker try to sell Republicans on a dangerously reactionary senator as an improvement over a dangerously ignorant businessman. But for the state’s — and the nation’s — moderate conservatives, “Never Trump” should more logically mean “Maybe Kasich.”

The framework that Mitt Romney sketched for a “Never Trump” movement on March 3 rested on an analysis of delegate allocation rules in the remaining primary states....

The one where they’re going after Cruz for his occupation?
Guess they forgot that Lincoln, Jeff Davis and John Adams were all busy “controversial” corporate lawyers too.

Cruz is the Republican version of Bill Clinton. Kasich would be a better choice than Cruz, but not as good as Donald Trump or for than matter Jeb Bush.

Trump or stay home. Clinton voted on all the same things George W Bush did. No difference in the uniparty.

Because it is what is called political astrotruf. It is a lot of emotion and energy spent by very few to trick others into doing their will and into thinking the manipulators are “yuge.”

I feel you. Cluster headaches were kicking my buttocks for the last three days, but I’m mobile, oxygen condensor close to my bed.
Sounds like a wound that won’t heal, Henry VIII had a thigh wound like that. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Trump has defeated the GOPe, he is what Conservatives have been praying for since Reagan. Unfortunately, he is not a Conservative and will never get my vote.

For years and years all I've heard here is give us a Conservative and he/she will win. I still believe that, but face it folks, the last 3 guys standing are either not conservative or the are so personally flawed that its impossible for them to win a general election.

In my view this is a chance to put the real Conservative we have all been talking about for decades on the ticket. The people have won in the GOP, Bush. Romney et al are non starters but there are many solid Conservatives out there. I don't have a preference as long as they are Conservative.
But at this point I wont vote for anyone the GOP or the Dims are currently running.

We have watched the media, including Fox News, spend 24/7 taking down our frontrunner. Why?

Trump has major enthusiasm and crowds that are larger than Obama’s in the primary of 2008!
The Dems are running two incredibly flawed candidates of which their voters are not enthused about showing up to vote.

What other plan do they have?

Maybe that is why the polls look the way they look right now. The bashing started in earnest March 3rd, right after Trumps super Tuesday victories.

As the kids say, $hit got real.

That’s right.

So why should the Cruzaders care about these polls if Cruz is getting whupped too?

I vote for Conservatives not who I believe may win.

I get where you are coming from, we are tired of the GOP telling us every election cycle that they just need our vote one more time and they never produce that’s why I am no longer a Republican.

I am a Conservative, to me voting for Trump is the same thing as the GOP has been saying all these years vote for our guy because he is better than the alternative.

As I stated before folks like you and me have won but we will lose if we don’t elect a Conservative.

- “Gay ‘marriage’ is settled . . . bakers should bake the cupcake”, is not how you stand up for the religious freedom of those who object to participating in a parody of the sacrament of marriage. [That was Kasich]

- “No, I don’t regret voting for the Assault Weapons Ban” is not how you stand up for the second Amendment. [That was also Kasich]

- Expanding Obamacare in your state is not how you stand up for freedom and for limited government. [That was Kasich too]

- “But for the 11 million people, come on, folks, we all know you can’t pick them up and ship them across, back across the border” is not how you discourage more illegals from invading America and taking our jobs and our tax dollars. [Yes, Kasich again]

Kasich would consider a democrat as VP if he were the republican nominee because he is at heart a democrat. I don’t know why he pretends to be in the republican party. Note: Kasich has taken other positions on each of these issues too, but he has taken each of these positions multiple times recently. If you can find that I’ve taken these statements out of context, please post your evidence. This looks to me like a good representation of the positions most often taken by Kasich.
