Two people in a Jeep crashed into an F/A-18E fighter jet on Thursday after they infiltrated a Navy base in an attempt to escape law enforcement. Both were killed, the Navy Times reports.

Was that the female Airman (Airperson?) who fell asleep while on patrol?
Thanks
....if I remember correctly, the blonde bumped against the fire button???
Seeman Hornsby.....
MP....Ugliest sailor I ever saw, that must be why they call them ‘pigboat sailors’ (Or something like that)....<: <: <:
I dont think thats a photo of NAS Lemoore in the linked article.
Concur. Not NAS Lemoore.

The ‘new’ journalism editorial...Say What????
If they mention fire they show a picture of a fire truck.
Doesn’t matter if the fire is in NY they may show an Atlanta truck....
Guess they figure if the ‘people’ don’t know what a fire truck is (without a picture) they won’t care if it isn’t from the same city....
Ain’t Progress grand...
The F/A-18 is expected to be charged with jeticular homicide
Someone on that base, perhaps many someones, need to have their butts kicked.
The gate guards didn’t activate the pop-up barriers, nor open fire. Why not?
I recall this incident, having seen the aircraft days afterward.
17 Jun 1992 [msh] 87293 USAF USAF ADS F-16C Block 32H
The aircraft, which was the number one Thunderbird, was badly damaged at Selfridge ANGB. A person drove his vehicle into the side of the Thunderbird F-16 at 70 miles per hour in what was later determined as a suicide. The crash tore out the port main undercarriage of the aircraft, and the aircraft was pushed 14 feet into another Thunderbird F-16C causing damage. The driver did not survive, and the time of the accident was about three in the morning. The aircraft was repaired at Ogden ALC and completed by April 1993. After its repair it was returned to Nellis AFB.
Irony: Full bird Colonel meets our aircraft on the Selfridge ramp, briefs us where to hangar our helo (next hangar over from this mishap Thunderbird)and describes that suicide. Says there was nothing that they could have done to prevent it. I mentioned loudly that every civilian airport in the US has gated fences controlling access to the ramps. He walked away shaking his head.
Does that count towards the pilot’s ace count?

Were you allowed bullets for your M-16? That seems to be a big problem on bases these days.
I was civilian security police and carried 120 rounds when I had the M-16. Otherwise, I carried a S&W revolver with 18 rounds total.
“Was that the female Airman (Airperson?) who fell asleep while on patrol?”
The driver is identified as “Airman Raymone Sydnor” and the source (Wikipedia) uses masculine pronouns. I remember speculation at the time that he was not alone in the car, if you get my drift.

When I worked on the base 1984-1992 their were Marines with full load outs and M4's at each checkpoint. You make it through any gate and you would not reach the operations area before being lit up and shot to pieces. This is a joke for present security at the Nations largest Naval master jet base. Save money and cut staff and teach terrorists how to destroy military equipment. Just like the airbase in Afghanistan that had an RPG and bomb attack take out a whole flight line of Marine Harrier jets not to long ago. Where did all the adults go because there are none left in any part of our government, courts, military leaders, etc...
Yes, but the Colonel in charge of the airwing died defending those jets. Pretty badass when the top guy gets killed, sorta like Entebbe.
