“As a group, we conservatives have so thoroughly trashed each and every one of our potential candidates, than none stands a prayer in the general election.”
While I rarely agree with Jonah Goldberg as of late, he recently said that regardless of which of the two finalists get the nomination, the feud between their supporters will result in not only an election defeat but the utter destruction of the GOP. I find the former may be a nuisance that can be overcome in a few generations (although I do think the USA is history at this point), the latter a benefit that lives forever.
Like many other commenters here I have decreased my time on FR and especially the comments, which I used to love. I’ve been here almost twenty years, and I think the reason passions run so high is that the conservative successes of 2010 and 2014 followed by the betrayals of 2011 and 2015 have left most here with the taste of bile in their mouths, and now the defeat of such a corrupt and defeatable marxist seems to be escaping our grasp.
Trump supporters (and to my knowledge I have never used epithets in describing them, it’s always “Trump supporters) deny the reality of Trump polling badly in 90% of the polls of head to head contests, yet they extol the validity of polls when Trump touts them.
Agree that the GOP deserves to be destroyed. The betrayals have been too great for too long.
Unfortunately, along with that collapse comes an all out assault by the left on guns, Christianity, the military, and free speech.
I don’t think there is any way we will survive that as a country. But we voted for it, and we will soon reap what we have sown.
