Shouldn’t is wishful thinking. Someone has to defacto maintain global stability. England did it for almost 200 years with pax Brittanica.

Then the U.S. took over for another 75 years, with a relatively less powerful Soviet Union playing a less dominant role.

A world that has multiple power centers is an unstable world.
