He might “make America great again” but I personally would like to keep the Framers’ Republic as our model of government.

What is your rational basis for the accusation that electing Trump will somehow destroy the Republic?

IMHO, that's abject fear-mongering. That's GOPe gibberish. That's the status quo talking.

The voters who will have put Donald Trump into the White House will hold him accountable.

We're not like Democrats. If one of ours screws up, we don't just blindly overlook it to the detriment of the country.

Your stated sentiments are 100% in lock step with the Establishment's hysteria and ongoing campaign of character assassination.

In other words, a crock of hand-wringing sh!t.

We can expect someone like 0bama to destroy the country. After all, look who elected him. Marxists promoting Marxists.

But that hand-wringing paranoia simply isn't something that's justified based on either Donald Trump or his supporters.

Tyrants like Hitler or 0bama do not wield power wothout the help of large masses of supporters.

Are you trying to imply that Trump's supporters would somehow go along with destroying the Republic and ignoring the Constitution?

Balderdash. You just sound like another knee-jerk Trump-hating Cruz supporter who sees boogeyman Donald Trump behind every shadow. Get a grip!

Donald Trump is not the demonic threat you and the entrenched Establishment would him out to be, and it's totally unnecessary for Cruz supporters to adopt this sort of tactic. I understand taking the easy way out is seductive (overt character assassination), but if Cruz is to jump ahead of Trump, it won't be on the strength of Establishment smears such as the "Trump could be another Mussolini or Caesar" slander.

Our system has checks and balances, and coequal branches of government. The Founders created a system that has built-in safeguards to prevent Tyranny. All that is ever required is that those in government have the courage to do their duty when a President, Legislature, or Court gets out of hand.

Donald Trump's supporters would not allow him to become a Tyrant. And without supporters, a Tyrant is nothing. That's what Impeachment exists for (among other things), and to pretend that the People who put Donald Trump in office would fail to hold him accountable is absolutely ludicrous. Again, that's something you'd expect from Democrats who already have disdain for the Constitution, not from Constitutional conservatives and libertarians.

Methinks thou doth protest too much...

Weird, what I said, before looking at what you said. The populist needs the populace, and some populaces are more inclined to coaxing on a Hitler than other.

Thank you Sargon! What an intelligent post. Trump has kids and grandkids in this country. He cares about America as much as Cruz does, as much as I do. The GOP WANTs everyone to hate Trump because it plays into their hands.

Most of the objections to Trump I see are based on his personality. I don’t get that. I don’t have to like the man to see he is trying to do the right thing here. I don’t like Cruz either but I can see some good points to his policies.

We’re not electing a best friend or a pastor or a buddy or a lover. We’re electing a President. I think the days of having a loveable Reagan type are past us.

We need a Pit Bull! We need a very STRONG Pit Bull!

Someone with that type of nature can’t turn around and be daisy-nice on a dime. It would be fake. Phoney.

I’ve had enough of fakes and phonies.

Sargon, If you’re through with your personal attacks, I’d like to answer your questions.

We (the people) haven’t done a very good job lately holding of our elected officials accountable. They promised conservative leadership. We gave them the House and the Senate. They ignore us. I’m interested in knowing why you think we’d be more effective with a President Trump if he decided to pursue policies we conservatives find ourselves in disagreement with.

In Mr. Trump’s own words he “makes deals” and he “wins”. When charm doesn’t work, we’ve all seen how utterly ruthless he can be. He’s brilliant at what he does (businessman), he inspires passion in his followers, and I believe he loves his country. So did Caesar who truly believed he was doing what was best for Rome. So did a great many Romans.

I personally don’t think Trump can be stopped by persuasion or otherwise if he’s convinced he’s right. I do see that he is currently supported by and hopefully listening to some folks whov’e definitely earned their conservative credentials over the long term. That’s encouraging. So is the way he has raised accomplished and loyal children; I think that speaks volumes about a man.

As for destroying the Republic, I think that process is well underway and has been for a couple of decades, but especially for the past 7+ years. That’s why we have to get it right this election. My fear is that a President Trump’s efforts to “make America great again” may well make us strong again economically and politically and militarily, but may do little about rebuilding the foundations of our national character. You are right of course that the citizens themselves bear a huge responsibility in that arena, but so do the leaders. And I guess I’m still idealistic enough to think that with wisdom and God’s help, we can do both.

Frankly, I think Trump may treat fellow Americans a lot like you’ve treated me: try to intimidate anyone who sees things differently or expresses legitimate concerns by attacking their character, making inaccurate accusations about their motives, and accusing them of the very practices being used to silence them. For good measure, a little uncivil or inappropriate language might get thrown in. That combination will result in a great many people just walking away from the table (including the voting booth). It will create enemies of some and probably lead a few to support candidates/causes/issues that most thinking Americans would eschew.

I don’t know you and you certainly don’t know me. However, it seems we share some common ground: we both love America. Perhaps that is enough to earn some mutual respect and civility while we get through this election season and its outcome. I wish you well my FRiend.

.....”We're not like Democrats. If one of ours screws up, we don't just blindly overlook it to the detriment of the country”.....

Well I hate to tell you that these last eight years of ‘our’ congressional leaders have shown otherwise that they do not.....

Whatever Trump says about ‘being flexible’ IS what will be done or undone if he wins.....Obama won't be the only one using executive privilege.....Trump will if he wins and nobody knows what he will want or do once he's in. Including Trump. He always says...”we'll have to see”.....so he has plenty of wiggle room because he's informed everyone that he will be flexible and expects his supporters to be likewise.

As I see it Trumps a heck of a risk as he could flip to enjoy whatever "washington" adulation the man seeks and needs...and he we know that he lives for that. Once he's in he won't need voter approval...he'll want washingtons.
