My understanding is that politicians have little recourse to libel laws. Something would have to be particularly egregious before they could achieve any sort of success in court. Private individuals have far more ability to sue than do public personalities.

Maybe so, but don't you think he'd at least be threatening one? ;)

Everyone in media and politics knows how this stuff works. There is no point in threatening when everyone knows you can't back it up.

Trying to threaten would just make you look weak.
