Exactly, but unless they can prove malice (according to those defamation laws Trump wants to change), i.e. that the reports are false and the paper knew they were false, then they are free and clear. And it’s VERY tough to prove what someone knew ahead of time, unless they are very stupid, and since the NE is in this business, I suspect they are very smart.
The problem for Cruz is that lawsuits take a long time and the election will be over. Trump's dirty trickster friends know this.
Trump is in good company. Obama and Barbara Boxer also got elected using last minute sleaze attacks. Also used to try to bring down Clarence Thomas. It's a Democrat specialty.
