To briefly summarize: A small organization of citizens with the sole purpose of stopping Donald Trump paid for online ads that used a publicly available photograph of Trump's wife to attack him. Trump responded by incorrectly attributing the ads to Cruz and then attacking Cruz's wife, a message that reached an exponentially larger number of people than the targeted Facebook ads. Cruz defended his wife, defended Trump's wife, and denounced the original ad, with which he had nothing to do. Trump responded to this by tweeting out to his millions of followers an unflattering photo of Cruz's wife. And Trump supporters have either tacitly approved of Trump's attack or ignored it.
The whole episode was the equivalent of a Red Sox fan heckling a Yankees pitcher from the stands and the pitcher in turn throwing a fastball right into the Red Sox batter's face. There's no equivalence here. There's no "Trump-Cruz feud" over each other's wives. The anti-Trump super PAC may have "started" the fight, but the responsibility for escalating the attacks to beyond the bounds of decency falls, as it often has in this election, on Trump and Trump alone.

Interesting, Trump has been totally silent on Twitter for 19 hours...he must realize that he stepped in it with the Heidi Cruz re-tweet and related tweets!
Hope he’s writing his campaign suspension speech...

It’s Megyn who doesn’t let go. She keeps needling him daily. He needles back. Yes, these are needless needles, but Trump is a counterpuncher.
The counterpuncher does not throw the first punch.
In the case of Megyn, Trump is also a cowpuncher.
The Rubio camp called it the #thething. It is probably why Rubio is not endorsing Cruz. A Rubio campaign staffer on twitter was begging people to not vote Cruz in Florida because they knew if Cruz was the only one left standing he would fall to #thething.
It's possible. Teddy didn't find out that he was a Canadian until 2013, so yeah, stuff does get past him.
Megyn has defended Trump. She’s not needling him; he’s just attacking her over and over again. He has no idea when to let go of that or of this Heidi thing or the citizenship thing (which he knows is a falsehood) or any of a number of other things he just keeps coming back to.
If I had a dollar for every time someone has said, ‘Well, Trump has finally done it...’
Rubio Supporters kept posting #TheThing (which this is) wks ago! Rubio is Establishment so they KNEW of #CruzSexScandal @yelsada @AshleyEdam— Aslan's Girl (@Aslans_Girl) March 25, 2016
LOLOL! I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.
They're just, ah....CITIZENS...yeah that's it!"
The best thing that could have been done was to ignore it, and I'd bet the vast majority of folks who ended up seeing it only did so after Trump made it an issue. Kind of like the Willie Horton ad.
Cruz was under no more obligation to denounce it that was Kasich, and denouncing a minor ad of which few people were aware would have just drawn attention to it.
Not denouncing something with which you were not affiliated is not nearly the sin of promulgation something offense yourself.
You missed the one earlier in the week? That was when she said “Well, here’s another candidate from that first debate who is saying he won’t support Trump if he gets the nomination. Trump thought the loyalty question was unfair; I wonder how he feels about it now?”
Complete and gratuitous non-sequitur. At the time of the first debate, Trump was being ciruitously and disingenuously singling him out. There was a conscious and underhanded attempt by Fox in those days to abort the Trump candidacy. It had the imprimatur of Roger Ailes himself, and Ruppert Murdoch himself.
So Megyn’s comment was definitely a needling one, and a smug one. And there have been similar asides (and broadsides) daily.
This is the old political dirty tricks - the PACs play dirty and the candidate has plausible deniability so their hands can be free of mud. Like Trump or not a least Trump says what he says to your face like a man. #CruzSexScandal
So: starting it is ok, but escalating it is not ok. Got it.
Ted is many things, but stud is not the first word that comes to mind.
Not at all. She was saying they forced him to take the loyalty oath (which they thought he’d never do and he did — very publicly), but now they want to break it to stop him. I saw the segment.
But somehow, you Trumpkins can manage to twist that around into some sort of anti-Trump comment, because you apparently need to believe that the world is against you.
Just because a question is directed at a particular candidate and makes him uncomfortable doesn't make it an irrelevant or improper question.
Please add me to the Ted Cruz Ping List, so I can request to be dropped!
“It’s possible. Teddy didn’t find out that he was a Canadian until 2013, so yeah, stuff does get past him. “
Wait. If one of these women is Canadian, maybe Ted doesn’t know he had an affair...
“But somehow, you Trumpkins can manage to twist
Please, we prefer Trumpanzees
