We've been through this before with Gingrich. At the time he was running for president I lost count of how many people used "everyone does it" or "Clinton got away with it" to excuse Newt's past divorces.
The difference between Newt and Cruz and someone like Bill Clinton is their voters.
Many Clinton voters (probably most) were willing to overlook his extensive adultery because they weren't all that moral themselves. For some Willie's womanizing only increased his status as "the man."
That tactic was DOA for Newt. For Cruz, a candidate who relies even more on the evangelical vote than Gingrich did, the optics are terminal if this has any legs.
