Yes but he also spent over a decade supporting Democrats more then Republicans. He didn’t change that until 2011. So obviously, Trump is capable of morphing as well, as he has done with many of his political positions.
The difference is that I know where Cruz has voted on the issues.

His businesses operated in states with more Dem politicians than GOP. So, when he was giving to every career politician asking for money, he had more opportunities to give to Dems. In Dem-controlled states, you pay to play. He probably paid off mobsters too, but that doesn’t make him a member of La Cosa Nostra.
He understand the corruption that exists in the dark soul of EVERY career politician because he had to pay them off and make time for the photo-ops while he was just trying to run a business.
