There is nothing “stealth” about the Cruz plan. Cruz cannot win on the first ballot - that’s math - everyone knows that. Cruz thinks he has a chance to win on a later ballot - that’s misplaced faith in the party hierarchy. His overt plan is to win on a later ballot.
Cruz is the most conservative candidate in the race, and I suspect he’s getting assurances that the establishment would rather have him than Trump, and he’s trusting them. [Note: the establishment was not pretending to hate Cruz; they really hate him, which makes it easier for them to lie to him and set him up.] What I actually expect if Cruz stops Trump is for the delegates to be pressured to choose a third candidate, possibly Kasich, but more likely a pro-Amnesty establishment figure who didn’t run at all this year.
