The argument is that neither side (or its supporters) is airing anything false, hence the use of the word "attack" or the phrase "go after" is misleading. The only thing either side is doing or threatening to do is make more public, what is already public.
We'll see how it plays out. At this point, it is a play-toy for the press, mostly. The Bush endorsement will probably (temporarily) swamp the possibility of a dirt fight.
