I had a friend recently call me up with thoughts of suicide. I was just leaving for an appointment, but I needed to help my friend out. He was 300 miles away and in a tough spot. His medication was messing him up. It took me three hours to help him figure out what to do - long distance. It took every ounce of finesse and prayer to give him what he needed.

What did it cost me? Especially, since I could not stop and call my appointment to let them know I was not going to show up for it. About $100. Plus, my ear hurt and my hand holding the phone hurt. But my friend needed me. I know he would have done the same for me.

We have made commitments that we have no right to back off on. Yes, Obama does that as a matter of course. But, we conservatives are not Obama. We have responsibilities and duties that set us apart from the libs.

Every person running for office on a Republican ticket should do no less.

Your analogy fails on a number of points.

Europe isn’t asking us to stop them, they’re asking for us to assist their suicide. We are under no obligation to do so. We are certainly under no obligation to pay for the suicide weapon.

As a sovereign nation we have every right, indeed we have the obligation, to reevaluate as circumstances change. We aided the Soviets during WWII. By your logic we should have continued that during the Cold War.

If they can afford a couple million refugees they can afford to cough up 4.4% of their GDP for defense.

Something THEY are supposedly obligated to do under the NATO Charter.

This is a ridiculous example. I applaud what you did for your friend. It was the right thing to do and you were the only one who could help. The situation is not remotely analogous.

There is no reason for NATO to be carried by the US. NATO has outlived its purpose, usefulness and is basically a transfer of wealth we cannot afford, to foreign Nations who have demonstrated they do not have our best interests at heart and are pursuing courses such as the current migration that put us at risk. Not to mention they have a higher GNP than USA.

Stepping back would force them to confront the perils they are storing up with their wrongheaded socialist policies rather than assuming someone else will protect them from their follies. That is the action of a friend, and in their best interests.

Allowing the situation to continue would impede and imperil our ability to maintain America’s strengths, to protect ourselves and be there for America’s allies if the need arises.
