The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for tomorrow, Tuesday March 22. I’ve included the text of the warning below. Please share this information with your email lists. From now through June, when the monsoon arrives, everyone needs to be kept aware of the elevated fire threat.
* TIMING...FROM 11 AM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH 7 PM TUESDAY EVENING.
* WINDS...SOUTHWEST WINDS ARE FORECAST TO INCREASE TO 20 MPH BY OR AROUND NOON AND PEAK IN THE 20 TO 30 MPH RANGE LATE IN THE AFTERNOON WITH GUSTS 35 TO 45 MPH.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL BEGIN FALLING BELOW 15 PERCENT AFTER 9 AM AND BOTTOM OUT IN THE 6 TO 10 PERCENT RANGE IN THE VALLEYS AND 10 TO 18 PERCENT ACROSS HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
* IMPACTS...ANY FIRES THAT DEVELOP OR ARE ONGOING WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO SPREAD RAPIDLY...ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WITH A HEAVY DEAD GRASS LOAD.
A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR. LISTEN FOR LATER FORECASTS AND POSSIBLE RED FLAG WARNINGS.
