I can’t stand Kasich but had no idea what he did there was an offense that requires a ticket and court appearance.
We have the same law here in Idaho.
It requires traffic moving in the same direction as an officer on the side of the road to slow down and, if possible, move over to the left to pass the officer for safety purposes.
You will get a ticket if you do not do so, and you have to show up in court to address the ticket, or you can plead guilty and send the money in to the court.
In this case, the truck behind Kasich new the law and complied. You can see it move over.
The police officer behind that truck noticed Kasich’s car did not pull over to the left, even thought there was room to do so.
So he stopped Kasich, got his license and reviewed it, and then issued him the ticket explaining what had happened and that Kasich would have to show up in court.
At the stop Kasich said twice that he did not see the officer on the side of the road, and the officer who stopped him explained civilly that Kasich had passed the officer right by.
The issue is Kasich’s word’s later...at some public event...calling the officer who issued him the ticket an idiot.
These laws are to protect officers who stop vehicles on the side of the road. Many officers are injured and some killed each year by the traffic passing them as the are there on the side of the road.
For Kasich to call this police officer an idiot at a public speech of some sort...who was just doing his job, and doing it politely...does reveal a side of the man that the public has probably not seen.
