That's what I thought at the time. I can't recall who he was running against, but the man was very popular with the people. I'm pretty sure that Lincoln was not really a stand-up kind of guy.
Mark Levin was using this story to calm fears about a brokered convention, but it only made me more wary of one. Wish I could recall the details, but Lincoln did not win fair and square AT ALL. There were payoffs and subterfuge, counterfeits, stolen delegates, broken promises - all with Lincoln's approval.
