John Boehner backs Paul Ryan for president, calls Ted Cruz ‘Lucifer’

Former House Speaker John A. Boehner said current Speaker Paul D. Ryan should be the Republican nominee for president if the party fails to chose a candidate on the first ballot at its national convention this summer in Cleveland.

SNIP

Mr. Boehner, who stepped down from the speakership last fall, has long whispered to friends that he thinks Mr. Ryan could be the savior of the Republican Party. He told the crowd Wednesday that “anybody can be nominated” at the Republican National Convention.

During the same question-and-answer session in Florida, Mr. Boehner referred to Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, another Republican presidential candidate, as “Lucifer.”

Why do they think that an eleventh hour choice of an establishment candidate, in the year of the anti-establishment candidate, is a wise decision? I am just incredulous.

The misstep in your thinking is, you think they care about what the people think. Remember, the establishment is out to preserve their own power first.

He’s still a congressman, isn’t he? Just not speaker anymore.

No, he's been out since the end of October. The seat hasn't been filled yet, though.

Why not? Cover all the bases.

Makes it certain that threads can be overwhelmed and spammed with virtually no intellectual effort at all.

Exactly. They are inflating Cruz to pop his balloon at the convention. They hate the guy.

Ryan is death on a stick.

I agree. A Trump / Cruz ticket is the best alternative for the country. Trump will restore the country and make us rich again as Cruz can control the Senate as president of the Senate. The team could potentially serve four terms. Long enough to kill off the crony klepto establishment. I’m writting to Trump and Cruz suggesting they team up.

I know. I know. But my primary interest in my political party is the furthering of my political point of view. I do not give two and a half squats about their power. It would be like an executive at McDonald’s caring about his pension benefits, and letting the quality of the food go to hell (...oh, wait). Don’t listen to your base at your peril.

Cruz still has a chance at the 1237 delegates, although it is admittedly slim. If he goes the distance and fails the scenario will be just as you describe. At this point I am hoping that Trump can cut a deal with Cruz and get this thing wrapped up.

Me too, but what it will take is for Cruz to see Ryan or some other RINO being put forth by the establishment as the alternative to Trump (instead of Cruz himself), and Cruz's odds of winning 1237 to become mathematically impossible.

So, by that same reasoning you feel that Trump threw his support to the muzzies when he criticized Pamela Geller for sponsoring the Draw Mohammed contest in Texas, that got them riled up.
