I am beginning to think no one on FreeRepublic knows the difference between a contested convention and a brokered convention.

A brokered convention is a GOPe win.

A contested convention is still a delegate leader winner unless something makes him a significantly changed candidate by the time of the convention vs when he won the majority of his delegates. This would have to be something where people that voted for him would be proclaiming that they would have voted differently at the time of the convention than at the time they voted in the primary.

As long as Trump stays the man he has been to date, he is going to win a contested convention. If he doesn’t win, that would be the end of the GOP.

Cruz staying in the race does keep Trump from running to the center or the left...so it can be argued by the GOPe traditionalists that this is weakening him for the general since this is what they argue you should do.

GOPe would be saying to run to the Center or the Left to prepare for the general and unite behind a single candidate.

I would like who ever the candidate to run as a conservative on conservative ideals.

A brokered convention is what everyone fears, backroom deals in a smoke filled room where favors are traded for power. That’s what the GOPe really is hoping for. I don’t think that’s going to work, it will be the end of the party.

If they want to do that, we should all applaud its death.

Not just the end of the GOP, but the Republic.
