Despite the OH loss to Kasich, and the two close races with Cruz in Missouri and NC, this was a huge night for Trump.
I show him winning 207 delegates on the night. Cruz will pick up about 80, and Kasich about 74.
At this stage, Trump has over a 200 delegate lead. With all the winner take all states coming up, I expect he is going to get to the magic number before the convention...but it may take him until June 7th now.
IMHO, Cruz has no path to an out right win now. The best he could do would be to win enough to deny the total math to Trump, and at this stage I feel that is a very outside chance in any case.
The absolute best Cruz should do now for the GOP and for the country would be to throw in with Trump as his VP.
At this stage, that would be my suggestion.
Sometime in April, make the deal for a Trump/Cruz ticket.
That would result in an absolute slam dunk against the GOPe, a slam dunk in numbers of delegates going into the convention, allow Trump to be in charge of the party rules, and unite the party for the general election against Hillary.
Gingrich was talking today about a possible Trump-Cruz alliance after burying the hatchet. I still think a Trump/Cruz ticket would be good.
I think your Cruz numbers are too high.
My math has him at about 27 in NC, 15 in MO and 9 in IL. Shut out of MP, OH and FL for 51 total.
MO’s districts can swing a bit. It’s been a while since thegreenpapers.com has updated the CDs.
Kasich has 66 from OH, 9 from NC and 8 from IL for 83 total.
Rubio got 6 delegates in NC.
That would give Trump about 227 delegates. (99 FL, 52 IL, 37 MO, 30 NC, 9 MP).
(Obviously there are still variables in play).
For the day, we’d be looking at:
Trump 227
Kasich 83
Cruz 51
Rubio 6
Thanks for the info! I wasn’t sure how the delegate count would go down tonight. Great news.
So TRUMP wins all over the nation, victories chalked up in all regions, disparate regions, from South Carolina to the north in Michigan, and yet TRUMP has to put one of these LOSERS on his ticket????
I think not.
Should TRUMP break the GOPE and scatter their remains, single handedly, with a campaign no larger than four, then in four years, hand it over to one of these no name boobs??
cRuse could not be groomed if you held his head under water, and he is so serpentine you could NEVER trust him, and Kasich is too entrenched in the ways of the Establishment to ever learn new tricks.
I think TRUMP deserves to keep the Establishment buried and MUST pick an outsider that he trusts, stick him in an office, and let him shine for the future.
Who knows what exotic name he will guarantee, for the sake of God and country, to save us from the bought and paid for.
Jeff Sessions is trusted and honorable, but may be too old in four years. We just don’t know.
Assuming Trump ends up with the nomination, he said his VP choice would be someone who knows how the federal government operates, how to get bills passed. That is not Cruz. He’s only been in the Senate for half a term, has had no bills passed, and doesn’t get along with his colleagues. Sen. Sessions would be a far better choice. THO neither would add electoral votes to a GOP ticket, so that would become a consideration.
