I think that happens at the end, but I also think Cruz wants the biggest pile of chips to negotiate with. That means he is wanting a spot on the ticket.

And Trump will give it to him, I think. If Trump goes to the convention with 1,100 delegates, and Cruz goes in with 800, and they run as a ticket, the establishment will have to cede to a ticket that won 75% of the delegates combined.

Otherwise 1968 in Chicago will look like a fight in the parking lot.

Actually he can deal for what ever he wants

He might prefer the supreme court to the vice presidency. That seems to be a very real possibility

That leaves the VP slot open to gain further leverage

It will be the literal deal of a lifetime
